Hi All,

My name is Steve. I am the one who bought Hillbilly's smoker. Thanks for turning me onto this site Hillbilly, looks like a really cool group. I'm going to do my first big cook tomorrow. Some Fatty's, butts, chicken and MOINKS. Hope I can live up to the rep of this smoker... Smile I just wish I could find some hickory. N Fla is not the best place to find hickory.

Thanks,
Steve

Yep, pulled great. I did have a cop follow me for a little while but he was more interested in his cell phone than the smoker.....

Yeah, the cops around here are pretty laid back. I'm going through smoking withdrawls at the moment, got a butt and a rack of ribs in the freezer and nothing to cook it with, lol.

I hope you get time to finish the little things on the smoker. let me know if you are gonna be smoking at the fair in Oct and ill come by and see how things are going.

I tried to get a spot at the fair and they were all booked. I have a line on a slot someone already registered, just trying to see if they are going to use it or not. I am trying to put together a couple cook in Sept and Oct. I will let you know if they come through and if you like you can drop by.

I have a couple butts on right now. Been going since 8am. Going to put the beans, Fatty, and the MOINK's a little later. I will let you know how they come out. So far all I can say is this smoker really cooks!

Just saying i need to get my new smoker built so i can do some smoking, i have all my material to build it minus the smokestack, having a hard time finding a piece of 4"x4"x1/4" 36"L square tubing. i started on it this evening. Ill make a new post on that build.

This is like watching the last episode of your favorite show. Sad

There is always the hope of a re-union episode to bring us all back together Rolling Eyes

It has taken me all of two days to read this thread as well as follow the builds that were cross referenced within this thread. It has been a lot of fun and I cant wait to continue living vicariously through you guys until I have the time to build mine. I will continue to lurk and gain as much knowledge as i can until then.

I rebuilt a boat once and did something really stupid - I sold it. I got more than it was worth but didnt get nearly what it was worth to me. To top it off, they guy I sold it to would call me and tell me how great the boat is and how many fish he caught and blah blah blah........

Hillbilly, you need to get the next build going!

Bob

Thanks Bob, whats fun about fabricating is your making something from just pieces of steel using your ideas along with others and it feels good to admire what you have built and the good comments from good people. Oh, and I've already started a new build, its a roll around patio model, here's the link http://thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30802

Here is a good location to buy steel for good prices. Its local for me, but they do ship anywhere. I think they have other locations as well.

I probably have a dozen or so places around here to buy metal, thanks for the info though.

Here is the latest pick of the smoker. I am in the middle of adding some caps for the stacks. To date I have:
1.) Added a shelf to the front.
2.) Installed a lock for the ash drawer
3.) Added a light kit
4.) Added stops to keep the shelf's from tipping when pulling them out.
5.) Placed a pin in the firebox door to keep it from coming off.

What do you think?
