Hi, all!

Joined here today to ask some questions because I'm building my first smoker (a double barrel). I learned how to grill from my dad, and got into doing more serious Q after I got my own place and started to mess around with doing smoking and slow cooking using a Weber grill.

I'm from Columbus, Ohio were I work in computers and like to cook, watch hockey, and OSU football. Smile

I built the big baby double barrel last summer. Call me 419-884-9855. I live in Lexington OH. Also added image 0854 Big Baby Double. I do have some ideas to share. Also have some modifications that I am doing this summer.

I'm glad there's other people in Columbus that smoke. Pig that is! I've got a Traeger and a cheap-o Chargriller. I'm trying to find a good source for fresh pork.. Do you know of a good place? I'm not happy with the stuff at the grocery stores. How's that smoker coming?

Well, I've got just about everything I need to build it, and my friends and I mixed and poured a nice concrete pad for it in my backyard yesterday. :>

We're probably gonna be cutting the barrels and painting them in the next day or two, loading up the firebrick and attaching all the stove pieces, and then I need to go out and grab some stove pipe and chimney bits, and grills to finish her up!

I'm getting a lot of help with the cutting and fab work from friends of mine who are general contractors, so we're working at about the speed of free food. Very Happy

As to the fresh pork - what side of town are ya on, Smokin'? I usually get stuff from the Giant Eagle or Meijer on Rome-Hilliard for "everyday" meats, but for serious pork or beef, I usually go to Weylands or Carfagnas' over on 161. I expect that I'll probably go to Carfagnas after I season her up for some pork shoulder to test it with.

If I can ask - where do you get your wood in Columbus? I've heard some good stuff about Mr. Mulch over near Linworth...

Sounds like you'll have a great set up! I live in Dublin, so Carfagnas is not far. I'll try them out. I've bought pellets for my Traeger at Mr. Mulch, but I have not tried their hardwood. They're pretty accommodating. I bought 2 cords of firewood for the winter from a local guy-- he's supposed to call me when he locates some hickory. I'm going to just get a cord of it when I can find it. If I locate a source I'll post it. It's definitely not easy finding good wood around here. Happy smokin!
