To the OP, call maverick and they will send you replacement probes.

Yeah for like $20 plus shipping. Atgan for that price you can get 3 analog probes that don't go bad. And $20 there in after they go bad again.

It was the last straw (do a search). I had a party with a buch of people and 2 beef roasts that I wanted med to slice for steak and cheese sammies. Dried out over done shoe leather all due to a faulty probe Evil or Very Mad

Just my opinion, if yours woks all the power to ya. I would just clibrate before every cook.

No, for free. Take a look at the WSM forum, there are several accounts of great customer service from Maverick. Tell them the probe failed after one use and they will replace. I have never had to call them but have read several accounts of them replacing probes, even after a year.

And honestly, you have to know your cookers and what your cooking good enough to not ruin the food due to a faulty probe. I have had analog therms fail as well.

Chalk one up for customer service. I took it back to the store I bought it from--Bennett's Market, Little Rock--and they gave me not just a probe, but a whole brand-new set-up, still in the box. Now, granted, I am in there a lot buying Royal Oak and stuff, so I am a known repeat customer, but that is still some above-and-beyond service right there.

I have/had two really cheap one, the first was a cheap walmart probe that was for use inside but I only paid $12 that one worked fine till I was outside and it started to rain some, I had my hands full trying to get my mopping sauce and things inside, so I just opened the smoker and placed in in the farthest corner away from the heat, I could even touch the grate so I thought it would be fine for a few minutes, when I came back out it was shriveled, still have the probe, but I have not run across another one like it at Wally, my other is a wireless I bought at ACE hardware for $24 on sale, it is nice and has a decent range for a cheap model, I can program it to a certain temp and set an alarm on it, I usually let that be my grate temp so that I can mow ect. and still keep an eye out for spikes and drops in temp. I just use the analog now to check at the end. It is funny now, but then it wasn't so funny, the wife still brings it up when I start to "Q", she always asks what temp is the smoker at? gotta love her she puts up with me....

ok, y'all had me wondering about my probe, so i went check it out. it's a 7 year old pamperd chef digital probe my wife got me. It shows 34 degrees sitting in a glass of ice water. I guess that should ease my mind.

Sorry, but the Red one is lighting fast you have to hold on with two hands to keep it from just jumping out of your grip. Smile

Red? Red is one of the most inefficient wavelengths out there. Geezo, if you want a fast color you want violet. Razz

My Maverick crapped out on me after the 5th use. Mad I sent it back and they replaced it.

I did some wild salmon on cedar planks Sunday and the maverick nailed it perfectly.

I really enjoy the convenience of the dual probe Maverick, and the ability to monitor the temp of the food without oepning my grill or my smoker, but the quality/longevity of any of these digital remote is "ify".

Are there significanlty better quality remotes other than Maverick?

Yes. From my understanding, a stoker controller can run as many probes as you want, will log your data, and you can view the info over the net. That is next on my list, though i think i will skip the blower. I just want to be able to monitor all three cookers at once.
