South Texas you have got to stop in El Zacatal about 3 miles east of Progreso on Hwy 281 at Smokin Joe's BBQ. My wife and I stopped there after a day in Mexico and the food is unreal!!!! It is without question the best I've had in the Rio Grande Valley.
Its a small place with a few inside seats and some outside seating, the place really feels like a Texas Q joint. We had brisket and ribs and since it was my first time there and I love Q cooking he gave me a run through of his custom built cooker (amazing by the way) and threw in some extra samples.
The owner and place are first order and your mouth will thank you for a real treat. He also offers a you bring it he cooks it service, first time I've seen that thought it was kinda neat.
