A try. I found a 55 gallon open top food grade drum with no liner from a local citrus company for $6.50 each or $5.50 if I buy four or more. Gonna go pick one up and get the other parts and give it a go, If it works as good for me as it has for ya'll I may end up trying to mount a couple on a small trailer with a little kettle grill for cooking burgers and dogs and the like. I'll post pics once I get rolling with it. I have a question, I know I have to oil the grates but what do I need to do to the drum before cooking in it? I saw on another post he talked about seasoning the drum. I know rookie question but I am still new to the smoking thing.

Hey there buddy, you forget yer manners?
When you score a sweet find like that, you are supposed to let the rest of us know where you are located. Drums like that are hard to find, ought to share your good luck with the rest of us. _________________ OkieJay

After you get it built clean the inside really good and then spray the entire inside down with cooking spray. Fill your charcoal ring with charcoal and dump a lit chimney full on top. Leave all of you vents open and let it burn until the charcoal is gone. Should be good to go after that.
Good luck and have fun.

Hey Smokin' Howz about strapping four of those drums on your trunk and bring them to Corpus for me? I just paid $30 each for two of them and the price went up this past Monday. The going rate here is $70 for removable lids and less (like mine) for the get a grinder and take the lids off yourself drums. |

Up to you in Kingsville jrb I'm wayyyyyy South I'll post the contact for those drums tonight for anyone who may be looking. If I had some better skills and a welder I think I would like to try that Two drum stack, I saw plans for one someone here had on his website but don't remember which one. |

The name of the company is Texas Citrus Exchange the contact is Ramerio or Eddie and the number is (956) 585-8321. When I called they said some of the drums have dents from the forklifts but they can be knocked out with a hammer and at $6.50 a pop for food grade, unlined, open lid drums, a little elbow grease won't hurt to bad Sorry about the Delay posting got busy at work this week. |
