FYI for those in the Greater Boston North or Southern New Hampshire area. I finally was able to find some Big Green Egg lump charcoal.

Complete Heat & Chimney Sweep in Nashua, NH. They have both Wicked Good Weekend Warrior and Big Green Egg Lump. I picked up 2 20lb bags of BGE today. I'll definately be heading back up there as it gets closer to the summer and I do more smoking. They had both 10lb & 20lb Wicked Good and 20lb GBE lump bags. Wicked Good is a bit more expensive.

They are mostly a Chimney Sweep company, but also have a small store front for wood/coal heat stoves and some grills and GBE smokers.

I haven't been able to find GBE in my area since Backyard BBQ went out of Business a few years ago.

What did you pay for a 20 lb bag of BGE lump, just curious because I pay $22 canadian for a 20 pound bag.I can get Royal Oak lump for $13 a 20 pound bag,so thats what I have been using now.

The BGE was $17.95 for a 20lb bag. I think the WGC was $18.99 for 20lbs.

On Wicked Good Charcoal's web site I can have 3 22lb bags shipped for about $18/bag.

IIRC, Canadian and US $'s are about the same. Its possible the Canadian $ might be worth a bit more.

I still can't find Royal Oak in any of the Wally Worlds around me. I've checked in 6 or 7 different stores including 2 SuperCenters. Maybe they just don't like New England. Confused

The agway in Hooksett and Concord NH carry Royal Oak. I think it was 17.99 for a 20 pound bag.

Handicap18, have you ever been to "woodstove fireplace & patio" in littleton? They sell the big green eggs, so they might have the lump as well. I work a couple of miles down the road from there and keep meaning to swing by during lunch.

Handicap, thanks for the post. I have not checked this year yet, but Michael B is right, Lull stocks Wicked Good. I live in Hollis so Ill check next time I drive by. As far as other places, Ill have to check the other postings as well for good charcoal in the area. I seem to remember Hollis Grain across the street from Lull carried something too, but I dont recall the brand or whether it was lump or not.

I stocked up for a bit on that Rancher last fall, but when I run out Im looking for lump or good quality Briquettes.

whoppr,
I was in Lull a few weeks ago. They only had 6 bags of WG in the store, but said they had a couple pallets in the store room.

Didn't know about the place in Hollis. Looks like its about the same distance from me as the one in Nashua. Maybe a bit closer, but the one in Nashua is less than a mile off the highway.

I finally found some Royal Oak in a Wal-Mart. Was in Wareham, MA (which is actually my hometown) this past weekend and they had just about a full pallet in the garden center. I only grabbed 1 bag as I didn't have much room because I had to pick up the kids at my parents. I'm going back down again to see my uncle on Thurs so I'll grab a few more bags at $5.24/10 lb bag. I'll also look at some of the wally worlds closer to my current home to see what they have. There was nothing in Chelmsford, North Reading or Peabody last season (at least there wasn't when I was there).

Complete Heat is much closer to the highway than lull farm. It would be about a 10-15 minute drive out to lull after getting off at exit 6 and it's really easy to drive by it.

Thanks for the info jdaniels. Good to know.

Found more Royal Oak at Wal-Mart in Tewksbury (Exit 38 off 495, 300 yards off the exit if anyones interested). Not a whole lot, but I grabbed 3 more 10lb bags at $5.27/bag. Also grabbed a few bags of Hickory wood chunks at $4.95 a bag.

Apple chips are pretty easy to find, but has anyone found Apple chunks around this area?

The place in Littleton doesn't have any chunks other than hickory at this point. Apparently they used to get the 25lb bags of pecan, walnut, cherry, apple and few others from a guy down south, but he hasn't contacted them this year. I bought the last 25lb bag they had, which was pecan. I work a couple miles down the road, so I'll stop in occassionally and post here if anything changes.

As far as apple chunks, there are these guys in Londonderry. I emailed them a couple of weeks ago and they will let locals pick up, thereby avoiding delivery charges.

This is the perfect time to find apple chunks in New England. The apple orchards are doing their spring clean-up, which means lots of dead branches. Most of the orchards will let you take several.
I pick branches about as big around as my wrist and knock them together. If they sound like baseball bats knocking together, they're good. If they make a dull thud, I don't.

Shaws in Milford, New Hampshire has Natures Hardwood all natural briquets, 18# for $5. (2 for 1)
TNW hasn't rated it, but the reviewer rating on his list is below average. OTOH, necron 99 on this list seemed to like it at twice the price: http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11643&highlight=natures

They also have Nature's all natural Mesquite lump at 6.6# for $5.
Rated as Highly Recommended by TNW.

I actually took Micahel B's direction and bought two bags in Milford this evening. Bad news is that the sale ends today. I actually did better than the sale by printing off the coupon the Nature's Hardwood website. It is a $1 coupon off one bag per purchase but they took a dollar off per bag bringing the total for both bags to $2.99. Not bad for 18# of charcoal... The coupon is good til the end of the year and bet Shaws will be running similar sales on holiday weekends.
