I need to vent a little and find out who else may have the same problem!!!

I have had little luck finding whole packer briskets. Evil or Very Mad Not even Sams carries them in this area. When I do find them it is at a local butcher and he want to charge me $3.90/lb. This seems very high to me Twisted Evil Any ideas from you seasoned veterans of the brisket out there?

I kinda got the same thing happening, Brisket is special order, by the case only. I saw flats in the store today marked at $4.29 each for 1/4 pieces

I occasionally get down to our "County Seat" of Rhinelander which has a super Wal-mart residing there that usually has whole unadulterated briskets of varying quality. For the rare occasion that I cook one I just grab it there. have you tried wally-world?

You might get more replies in the general section, possibly even some guys that live by you could let out the secret of where to find them by you.

Sams has quit carrying packers here as well. I can still get them at Super Wally World if I want or at my local IGA (for a premium).

If you have a Gordon Food Service (GFS) near you and are willing to buy a case you can get them for about $1.60lb. When I order from my GFS here, they only require one days notice and they come in not frozen.

Sam's carries Select brisket down here, I'd imagine that your local butcher carries Choice or better.

Did you actually speak to the butchery manager at your Sam's or just one of the other staff.

Mine will get me anything I want, and doesn't stick it to me on the price if it's something he doesn't get often, the only hitch is, I do need to buy it by the case, but a case of brisket is about 75 lbs, and although that may be more than you'd like to buy for yourself, see if there are others in your area in the same problem, then club together and buy a case between you!

I've found by talking to the meat manager that most chain grocer's (Kroger's, etc) will order what ever I want and since I want packers, they give me a price break over what they trim and put in their case. I suppose it would be even cheaper if I bought a case. I paid $2.27/lb for three choice at the local Ingles.

You can also go to some of the food service companies. Many of them have "will call" windows and you don't need to be a company to buy from them, just someone will to pay. USFoods, etc.

I wonder if this is because of Big Brother making us put food in our gas tank?? I wonder if this is just the beginning.

In my area we have a Cash & Carry which is a restaurant supply. They have them. Might check to see if you have something like that in your area.
