Hey, I'm thinking of taking a road trip to Tunica. I'll be passing by, Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville to name a few cities. I want to try out some authentic souther BBQ. Any suggestions are more than welcomed.
Thanks |

Welcome to the ring!
In the Nashville area look for a BBQ restaurant called Martins BBQ Joint in Nolensville, TN (615-776-1856). The owner is originally from my hometown area in NE Mississippi. Beware of any of the popular franchise chains - I had a bad meal & poor service at a Corkys in Nashville.
In the Memphis area my preferences are again for some of the less publicized restaurants. There is The BBQ Shop and Central BBQ in the Mid Town area. Neely's Interstate BBQ is also a good choice (there are a couple of other Neely's restaurants from Jim's family, no personal experience with them though).
Memphis is the home for the Corky's franchise there are 3 of them there plus one at a casino and Rendezvous in Downtown Memphis. Many people will choose them because of popularity.
Too many of the franchise BBQ restaurants are about quantity over quality so I am kind of choosy about stoping at some of them.
Enjoy your trip!

nice! thank you
just the info I'm seeking
(I don't like publicized chains as they're always a hit or miss, I think forums are the best source.)
Will def keep you guys updated with my trip. |

I'll add to what Tom said(he pretty much nailed it) and flat out tell you that if you pick a Neely joint it has to be interstate BBQ. Uncle Jim has the rest of the family beat when it comes to BBQ. The BBQ Shop is pretty good as well. Closer to Beale Street the drunkerrrr.....the better. |

That is a simple one. Knoxville, I would it at Calhouns on the River. OK BBQ but neat place set on the banks of the Tennessee River. Nice place to get a drink and sit out on the patio.
Nashville, I would eat at Paradise Ridge. It is west of Nashville on I-40, in the Charlotte Pike/Bellevue area. Neely's is at Metro Center.
Memphis, I would stop at the Rendevous, Corky's on Poplar, Interstate(on the way from Downtown to Tunica), Willinghams, or Cozy Corner(off Jackson Ave). Many argue but I prefer Rendevous to most of the others. Ate there all the time when I lived in Memphis. _________________ Memories of past exploits: |
