When I was a kid 40 odd years ago we used to go to a place in Macon called Ed Spears if my memory serves me right. Haddons was another place in Macon that served fries that I've never been able to imitate, I had a dream about them last night.....
The fries were battered with a flakey type batter and they were to die for. I've never seen anything remotely close since. I had some beer battered fries in Pa. but they were not even close to what I'd like to recreate.

Do you remember roughly where they were located in Macon. I grew up near there and don't recognize either name.

On Ed Spears, I want to say Millerfield Dr. We lived near Bowden GC and it seemed it was past that going toward the center city. It was a drive in type operation and I think it was black owned.
Haddons I have no idea, it was in the general area though.

I'm thinking they dipped the fries in an egg batter and applied the flour, never been able to duplicate it though.

My parents are still alive and kicking, maybe I can get a better description, they loved that stuff too.

The names that I remember from Macon are Fincher's, Fresh Air, and Satterfield's, and then Old Clinton up in Gray.

Haddon's could have been off the beaten paths enough that I could very well have missed it.

Mom and Grandma knew the Finchers, their sauce is what mines based on, with definite tweaks. Their q was damn good til we moved to NC. Up here it goes to another level.
The Ed Spears fries is what I'm trying to decipher. I've never tasted better in my 47 years of existence. Flakey battered perfection.
