In your pictures, is that your cook chamber frame? I see the door and it looks to be the same size. But I don't see the additional frame needed for the chute and the ash box area. Is that going to be added on?

Where are you putting your opening into the cook chamber -- from the ash box or from within the chute? On most of our clones, the opening is from the chute into the cook chamber. The chute connects to the top of the ash box and the grate is in the ash box but at the top. So all of the burning lump is in the lower portion of the chute.

I think most are going with a 3" x 5" opening (I think the original Stumps had a 2" x 4" opening but that is with a smaller cook chamber than most of our clones). You might need to go with a 2" ball valve to provide enough oxygen. Also since your cook chamber is so wide, you might consider putting in some sort of longer diffuser to spread the heat across the cook chamber to even out the temps.

Good luck with the rest of your build.

yeah my chute and fire box will be a removable add on, after seeing and hearing about needed repairs, i want to be able to get to it without a lot of hassel.

my opening is gonna be from the chute.

i didnt think about the bigger ball valve, but that is a good idea.

i was thinking about a 5" X 8" opening, and am going to build a diffuser across the whole width of the bottom. you trhink that opening will be too big.

5x8 may be a bit too big of an opening. What size of chute are you going in with? I would recommend 8x8.

I would think a 4x6 opening would be big enough. You don't want a high volume of heat coming out. You want a nice slow movement of air -- this helps keep the moisture level up in the cook chamber so the meat doesn't get dried out.

A plasma cutter and cutting torch makes anything removable. That's what we used to cut into mine to make the repairs.

My cook chamber is 36" W X 24" D X 46" H. I used a 6 x 8 x 3/8 wall tube for the first 18" of the chute and 14ga for the rest of it. My inlet to the smoke chamber is 4" X 5" and I run a 2" ball valve.

Keep the pics coming.

Looking forward to seeing your progress! Very Happy

I thought the removable chute was a great idea. Why use a plasma cutter or cutting torch (blue tip wrench) if you don't need to? Wink

What thickness did you use for the area where the fire burns in the chute?I am building a 2nd clone and have the burnout issues on the first.I am doubling up 5/16 for the 2nd.I am going to finish #2 before tearing into #1.

Just glad to see another fireman on here. The clone looks great, what color is she going to be, RED or some variation of it?

Coz, I also had the burnout issue and went back with 1/4" SS for the lower 12" of the chute. I'm hoping this will take care of that issue for me.
