One of the main reasons I can't upgrade to a bigger-sized smoker is because the lot our house resides on is just too small - i have no room! In our area (or most of Seattle area), lot sizes are anywhere from 6,000 sf to 8,000 sf. If you want an acre-sized lot, you gotta head out to the boonies, or fork over seven figures.
Our lot is 7,000 sf, half of it is house. I imagine where most of you folks live, you got acres and acres and acres!!! stuff i can only dream about.

OK I'm working that out. 59x146=8614 We have a fairly big house in the burbs up here in Toronto. Lots of trees out the back which we really like. I was mentioning to the guys recently that I might get some static if I put a large smoker out there but I heard on the news recently that if your cooking food it's OK. My little Traeger will do for now it's new. I'll probably upgrade in a few years but not to anything too big : just big enough to hold a medium size pig! |

Do not know lot square footage, but I do know the whole lot is .04 acres. We live in a 3 level townhouse with manbe a 30 by 20 back yard which is even more limited with the shed and my wife's vegetable and flower gardens. Currently my smoker resides on the patio underneath the deck, but due to the potential for deck stainage from the smoke, the plan is to move it in the next couple of weeks. Looks like a 10 by 10 tarp will take up a large portion of the yard, oh well. _________________ Dinger |

I happen to live in the boonies now... We are on .4 acres, but plan to buy the lot behind us to increase to 1 acre... My father-in-law, 2 1/2 miles down the road, has 20 acres, plus a three bay building with plenty of room for any smoker I find... now I just have to match my budget to my dreams.... _________________ Smoke 'em if you got 'em.... |

Our lot is 125' wide and 275' deep and is on a horseshoe shaped street that follows Cibolo (Buffalo) Creek. We have the creek along our back fence. We have about 15 trees in the backyard, Liveoaks and Elms with crazy amounts of wildlife for being so close to a large city. Plenty of room for the Gator. One of the great things about Texas is if you need a small afordable place you can get it in town on a small lot or out in the country side on a larger lot and still be close to town and if you can afford a ranch you can have that to.

Our lot is about half an acre. Since the house is about 1800 sf. that leaves a plenty of lawn. If all goes well, by the end of winter I will have a good sized (but small footprint) smoker, a charcoal grill, and a gas grill setup in the fenced area of the backyard. The wife and I plan on putting in a paver patio for the cooking gear and then a deck for the spectators.
Fatty will be parked along side the fenced area in her own little space. And yes, she will still be chained to a large tree. I live in a small Oklahoma town and don't really think I need to chain her up, but the AR in me forces me to. _________________ OkieJay

Sounds good Jay. The wife and I keep talking about moving home to rural, upstate NY where we could buy a 100 acre farm with a nice 18th century colonial for less than our little townhouse costs here. I actually don't think I can imagine having the $800k+ it would take to get a 1/2 acre lot here. _________________ Dinger |

We have 75 acres way out in the sticks(ask OkieJay, he's been here). Sure is nice not to worry about the neighbors when I fire up a smoker. Matter of fact I never worry about the neighbors, since the closest one that lives here is over 5 miles away. It sure is tough when I get a sweet tooth at midnight and the closest strore is 15 miles away. We have little less than a mile of Colorado River frontage on 2 sides, helps keep the area full of deer and turkey. _________________ SMOKERS THAT WORK!!!

Very familar with the area Doogie. My high school played sports in the same league as Glens Falls. I am thinking my preference is more in the Fulton, Schoharie, or Otsego County areas. Would love to go back to living in a village (or outside even better) of 3500 (we moved here from Cobleskill, NY) rather than the DC metro area and it's 5 million plus people. _________________ Dinger |

The wife and I just moved from a duplex in town to an old dairy farm, out in the boondocks, about 32 acres. It's been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. Lotsa deer, turkeys, guinea fowl...and a creek with salmon. Sure, tis a wee bit o'heaven! But the best part, when I fire up the wood, I don't get every drunk in the neighborhood wandering in the yard, with their plate in their hand, wondering when they'll get to eat! _________________ When they say "Do not use Gas to start grill"...They mean it! |

My wife graduated from Shen(1988) and her parents and her brother and his family still live in Clifton Park. I actually grew up in Johnstown and we played in the Foothills Council. where I wrestled and played baseball. We get up there a few times every year as my parents are still there as well as her whole family. Flying up there for Thanksgiving in fact. As for moving back, it really is more of a when as we would prefer our kids go to high school there rather than here. _________________ Dinger |

I am in Prince William..........unfortunately very little deer hunting here. I generally get to hunt once a year since we moved here. I hunt Mason Neck State Park's draw hunt where they allow hunting for 3 days of the year........average deer taken there dresses at 100 pounds or less. This will be my 4th year taking part (you get picked for 1 of the 3 days), and I have yet to actually get one. _________________ Dinger |

Having owned a Landscaping business I would like to suggest to those of you that have a interlock patio where you keep your smoker setup I can recomend a product that Uni-lock sells for sealing the stones so any spills or drippings from the smoker wont stain the stones. It can be applied with a roller or sprayed on and also keeps the stones from fading with sunlight. Fat from the smoker can stain your stonework as badly as an oil drip from your car and this will help to keep your patio area looking all nice nice for years to come.
If your willing to cover airfare and provide a nice meal I would be willing to do the application free of charge... _________________ Chargriller Akorn
