Well I finally took the plunge and ordered my Lang Delux model 60 with the warming rack. I am going to pick it up Feb 7-10 My buddy and I are taking the road trip. Save the $500.00 shipping fee. So with the savings on shipping I had Ben build a charcoal grill where the wood basket would have been. I Can't wait !!!!! _________________ Them Bones BBQ

I ordered it and then started seeing all these guys on here leaning towards the Fat 50. But I did my research for a few years and I do have a buddy who has a Lang 84 so I have seen them in action. _________________ Them Bones BBQ

What do you use the warming box for? How thick is the plate between the warming box and the fire box? What type of temps do you produce when in the warming box, when smoking food in the main chamber at 225? Thanks, novice smoker. _________________ Homemade trailer offset

You can cook side such as baked beans or mac and cheese, or just keep trays of food warm(pulled pork, ribs) It also has a damper which you can open to smoke in there as well. _________________ Them Bones BBQ

Got back this morning. I left GA @ 1:00 pm and drove straight thru back to NJ. Got home about 2:00 AM. I plan to season her today. Here is a pic.
Can't wait to cook on her.
That is Ben Lang (the tall guy) in his shops yard. He seems like a good guy. Took me thru a tour of his shop showed me the construction process. A real nice guy who make a super cooker. I have never seen me so happy to spend money!!!lol I can't wait to cook on it. _________________ Them Bones BBQ

she is just about all done being sesoned! I am smoke curing it now. I will try to cook some ribs tomorrow see how the weather holds up! Here are some pics I got while getting ready to season it.
it is going to take some getting used to but it seems to hold temp real nice once she gets hot the oil was siziling along the baffle/drip pan as was supposed to so a real nice cooking temp all the way across. If the weather is nice tomorrow the forcast looks like ribs. _________________ Them Bones BBQ

Your going to love your Lang 60.
There for a while, I thought I was the only guy in Jersey to have one : )
The only down side for me is that depending on where you are in Jersey, getting wood can sometimes be difficult.
On that note if you have a good source for wood, please let me know where.
Good luck with your new toy. |

I have a tree guy that live across the street that I am friendly with. Just last night he called me and asked if I wanted a pickup load of cherry he had just cut down for a customer. So I drove to the job and filled up my truck. The home owner even tipped me for picking up the wood in his yard! LOL That was pretty funny. It will have to season but it was free. I told my buddy...any fruit wood oak or hickory...callme up and I will come and get it. Also, I don't know where in Jersey you are located, But there is an apple orchard that sells oak apple and cherry wood seasoned and split for $50.00 1/4 cord. That was where I used to get my wood as I have a wood storage problem.......no room. The orchard is near Franklinville. Oh!, I know of one more guy that has a lang in nj so that would make three. _________________ Them Bones BBQ

edskull69 - do you mind posting the measurements of the upper rack? I need to get one made since mine didn't come with one.
BBQMAFIA - As far as NJ, I bought my 60 from a guy off Exit 8. Its a 2004 that the original owner modified. He is in steel manufacturing so he added a grill up front and 2 propane burners (turkey fryer type) on the back side of the cook chamber. I purchased it from him June '07, for $1840 and then towed it back to Culpeper, Va. I love it but wish I had an 84.
As far as the warming box, I have never had it go over 155 degrees. Thats with the pit temp at 250 and the vent to the warming box wide open. I simple preheat the wood in it now. |
