I don't yet claim to be a Q aficionado, but if you happen to find yourself in Rochester, Syracuse New York and need decent BBQ, you owe it to yourself to check out the Dinosaur BBQ pit.

If nothing else, they helped indoctrinate me into the BBQ world, so I owe them at least this much.
Good eating,

| I'll be in Syracuse T-F. I'll have to check em out. Have read about dinosaur somewhere else if my frail memory serves correctly. Coincidence or destiny? |

I do have some very few pictures of the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Harlem (NYC), if you would like to take a look.
I try to go there on every visit to the city. In my opinion it's the best BBQ restaurant in NYC.

The mention you may be recalling is in Peace, Love and BBQ Mike Mills. _________________ Here's a change Robert.

I did make it by Dinosaur today, the crowd at lunch was a very diverse mix.
Cool atmosphere, great service.
I went with one of my associates who lives in central NY, he had never been there, but was very familiar with the Sauce (says he puts it on his burgers) and knew where the place was.
I got a platter with Brisket,Ribs, and pulled pork.
I detected an odd kind of like a burnt taste (on all meats), but couldn't figure out what caused it.
If the burnt taste were not there I'd say the ribs and brisket were fantastic, even with that they were pretty damn good, cooked perfectly.
The pulled pork was fair.
Sides I had were cole slaw and baked beans, I'm so picky I would never fault a place on its sides. I don't like "extras" like meat and peppers in my baked beans, but realize just about everyone else does.
I stopped by a local grocery store to pick up some sauce, basic sauce is real good, catchup/vinegar/sugar, with a smoky taste. I liked the one called Wango Tango better, spicey, but not overly so w/some habernaro in there. They had 2 sauces that waitress said was hotter, but didn't try them.
I enjoyed my meal and a visit to a famous bbq joint.Sure wish I could travel the country sampling places like this and get paid for it. |

Ended up in the "Cuse" again this week. First stop off da plane was Dinosaur(I am a manager, but I have priorities too).
The burnt taste mentioned in previous post was non-existent. Must have been a one day thing. Just did brisket and pulled pork this time. Brisket was great, pork was ok. Have been using the Wango Tango Sauce on all kinds of things in between the 2 visits, better buy more b4 I leave the area tomorrow.
I'll say this about C NY food/climate in general, I'd weigh 100 lbs. more if I lived up here. |
