Just to switch gears a bit, instead of singing the praises of all the great BBQ joints we have experienced, how about sharing the identity of the restaurant you would rather turn vegan than visit again!

My vote would be Kansas City BBQ of San Diego. We lived there a few years ago and found this little dive near the harbor. Really disappointing. Maybe ate there twice. Meat really tough and nothing else to save the day. Only redeeming feature was a bumper sticker over the bar advertising another bar "Where the beer is colder than your ex-wife's heart!".

Any other readers been there?

Would have to be Budro's Rib Joint in Ardmore, OK.

They talk a pretty good game about how great their BBQ is but The Blue Pig just about 15 miles to the NE at the Ardmore Air Park really puts them to shame.

The Blue Pig may be the best BBQ in Oklahoma in my opinion.

Hope it was ok to talk about the worst and the best here... Wink

(dis)Honorable Mentions: Oklahoma Ribber, Earl's Rib Palace, Rib Crib

Usually I'd just say Countryside BBQ in Marion,NC. But Ruby's BBQ Shack on Tunnel Rd in Asheville, NC is now HANDS DOWN the worst BBQ joint I've ever ate at.

I can in all honesty say that the plain "racetrack" hotdog that my brother had was better than the pulled pork(cough...pork roast) and the ribs(cough pork roast). I found out real quick why they seemed to be real proud of their sauces. Mad

The fact that their website claims they have the best BBQ in WNC makes me dizzy. Especially knowing that better BBQ can be had up the street in the form of a Mcdonalds McRib. Twisted Evil

........yep.....that was pretty low. Laughing

Worst BBQ I've ever eaten was at a place on Hwy. 29 in Century, FL. Had a BIG sign proclaiming themselves a BBQ Restaurant!! Stopped for lunch & asked for a combo plate (ribs and brisket). No ribs they say but do have pulled beef. OK, I'll try that, then. HA! The "pulled beef brisket" was pulled pot roast, no kidding!! Only time I ever refused to eat what I ordered.

Honorable Mention for Bad BBQ goes to Beulahland BBQ on Hwy 90 just outside of Pensacola, FL. No smoke flavor at all & a quart of sauce on a 4 bone lunch plate.

With the pick of several nasty places around here, Sonny's takes the prize in my book. Carolina BBQ a close second.

The names of a lot of bad places have slipped my mind through the years. A lot more bad than the good, guessing at a 85% rate of bad. This includes a lot of styles and states. One that was stand out bad was one in the Raleigh area called The White House BBQ I think. May have just been the style as the place was full and the others were eating it. It was right off the Interstate and may have been folks that just didn't know any better or they could like theirs like that. Not that it was the worst, as there have been many that rivaled it for bad, but when you have your mouth set for good BBQ and you are offered up something like that it really sticks in your mind.

Guys, let me tell you that there is a restaurant in the Airport at Washington DC where they sell smoked brisket sandwiches that are so unbelievably bad that you want to pat the chef on the back for achieving the impossible.

I stick with 5 Guys Burgers when I'm flying out of Reagan National. It's the only thing that has taste.

In Rockville, MD, there is a place called Hot Stone Open-Pit BBQ Grill. STAY AWAY! I've had better BBQ out of a can.

Howard's BBQ in Colorado Springs. Used to be really good when Howard owned it, but the new owners have been taking way too many shortcuts. Ribs are bloody next to the bone, the pulled pork is served cold because they don't heat it up enough after taking it out of the reefer, and brisket ya gotta chew on for quite a while before you can swallow it!

That is what you get for eating BBQ out of an airport.

Big Bubba's just didn't do it for me. Lousy, tough meat, over priced.

You don't want to know what they found at BOTH a Wendy's and a Taco Bell 10 miles down the road from me. Shocked

Cool thread idea.

My bottom-rung BBQ restaraunt pick would be any of the many Bill Miller's chain spots in Texas.

I gladly eat Harlon's BBQ at Bush IAH rather than Bill Miller's stuff - and I'd eat Pappas' BBQ before Bill Miller's, but not before Harlon's. When we lived in Ohio and had connecting flights at Bush, I'd always go to Harlon's. It's airport BBQ but still better than many I've had elsewhere - beef brisket froma restaraunt that's worth fiddling with outside of Texas is uncommon in my experience, Oklahoma excepted.

There was a severed thumb bit in someone's salad at the Red Robin spot where we lived in Ohio while we were there - we'd tried the place once before that happened when we'd first moved to the area and quickly decided it wasn't our kind of spot - one trip was enough.

Hey Lantern,

We went to the Biltmore Estate about ten years ago now and stayed in Asheville for a few days, had a great time sampled some fine wines, good food and Southern hospitality made that vacation one to remember I can tell you.

The trick to Asheville is having time to get out of the car and do a little walking. When you're on foot in downtown you can really run across some GOOD EATS. With the culinary school so close by the local restaurants have a pretty good stock to choose from.

Just watch out for the hippies and granolas. Laughing

Too bad you visited when 12 bones smokehouse wasn't around. It's the only place I suggest people eat BBQ in Asheville unless it's my smoker. Wink

You are hilarious!! What do you expect? Good service and quality editable food? I think not.. Just be lucky you wasn't the one that got the finger in one way, shape or form at Wendy's.

Backyard BBQ, Martinsburg, WV

I have eaten some real Bad BBQ, But this is the first I never even tried to finish, The sauce I truly believe is ketchup. The Coleslaw was the best thing on the menu, and it really isn't even eatable.
