RULES AND REGULATIONS
GENERAL
1) The Stampede of Pits BBQ Cook-Off will be held at the Lone Star Expo Grounds
located in Conroe Texas driving directions can be found at www.thelonestar.org
2) The Montgomery County “Lone Star Stampede” Rodeo Committee or the Knights of
Columbus Council 6456 or their representatives will not be responsible or liable
for any injury, theft, or damage. The Cooking Teams will be held financially responsible
for any damage to the grounds in their team space.
3) It is the responsibility of the BBQ cooking team to keep their area clean and assist and
dispose of your own garbage. All teams must provide garbage cans or trash bags for their own use.
Dumpsters will be provided.
4) Holes, dug pits or open flames in boxes of any sort are not permitted. No open flames of any
kind are permitted on expo grounds (i.e. tiki torches, campfires etc…)
5) Each team will be required to have at least one 2A10BC type fire extinguisher in full view
at all times.
6) Each cooking team must provide all supplies and equipment as needed. Ice may be available
for purchase.
7) No Pets of any kind (except Seeing Eye Dogs) will be allowed in the contest area or the
adjacent parking lot.
For Safety reasons, the contestants will not be allowed to have golf carts, bicycles,
motorcycles, water balloons, sling shots, firearms, etc… in the contest area.
9) The Chief Cook will be held responsible for the conduct of his team and guests.
10) Under no circumstances are alcoholic beverages to be distributed to the general public
by contestants. This means no supplying drinks to anyone outside their gates.
Each team must keep their alcohol supply out of sight. No open display of serving area or flaunting
large supplies will be allowed. Please be discreet.
If caught breaking this rule will result in removal from grounds.
11) Consumption of alcohol by minors is illegal and will not be permitted on Expo grounds.
Individuals or teams caught supplying alcohol to the general public outside of their fences or
minors will be fined and excluded from this and all future competitions.
12) If you want to have a private party for sponsors you must fence in your area and provide
some kind of security.
13) Chief Cooks and 4 assistant cooks will receive an armband in their packet to identify them
during the cook off. This armband will admit the person to whom it was issued to all public areas
and admittance during the entire weekend and must be worn at all times during the cook off.
14) This will be a BBQ Cook off not a battle of the amps! All music will be kept reasonable
during the day and turned off at 6 pm, as we plan to have a live band and Rodeo will blaring music
of its own.
15) Port-a-potty and Dumpster locations will be visible.
Contestant Info
1) All entry fees must accompany the application; cook off entry fee is $150 per team and space
(size) comes with entry fee. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis and will
be charted by committee. There are 18-20 sites with electricity and water hookups and will cost
20 dollars extra (Lone Star Expo Charges) There is limited electricity from that point and generators
will be permitted. Water will be available to everyone.
2) Check in will begin at 10 am Thursday 8th May. All teams should be checked in by Friday May 9,
2008 by 6pm. Vehicles must be removed from BBQ area no later than 5 pm.
3) All spaces will be chosen or assigned at entry gate upon arrival
4) Contestant Packets will be given at entry gate upon arrival and you can pay at the gate when
you arrive. We will allow latecomers.
5) This BBQ Cook off will be an 85% pay back on the sanctioned Saturday event, this will help us
pay for Expo grounds to hold the event and Port-A-Cans, Dumpsters, contest supplies, trophies, and
IBCA Fees and Judge Hotel room and mileage. All Thursday and Friday events are non-sanctioned events
and payouts will be 100%, 1rst, 2nd, and 3rd places paid only with no trophies, its all about the cash.
6) Sponsorships sold for the Cook off could add money to the event.
Cooking and Judging
1) Contest will be conducted under IBCA Sanctioning Rules. Packets will contain a copy of the IBCA rules.
You do not need to be a member of the IBCA to compete in this contest.
2) Fires must be of wood or wood substance. No gas or electric fires will be permitted.
Fires can be started with gas or electricity but gas or electricity cannot be used for complete cooking.
3) No contest meat for Saturday May 10th may be cooked, salted, seasoned or marinated prior to this event.
4) Chief Cook meetings will be Thursday 6pm-Friday 9am-Saturday 9am. Only Chief Cook needs to attend
these Mandatory Meetings. Containers will be given at these meetings and Friday entry fees and
containers will be given at this time also.
5) No sauces or garnishment may be put on contest meat after it has been taken off the pit.
6) No more than one cook allowed on any pit.
7) Awards will be given each night during the Rodeo inside the Rodeo Arena spread out through the
performance at the breaks.
Chairperson and Judges decisions will be final.

1pm- Chili Turn in- Entry Fee $10- 1rst (60%) 2nd (25%) 3rd (15%)
2pm- Turkey Breast Turn in- Entry Fee $50- 1rst (60%) 2nd (25%) 3rd (15%)

11am- Beans Turn in- Entry Fee $10- 1rst (60%) 2nd (25%) 3rd (15%)
1pm- Chicken Turn in-
2pm- Pork Spare Ribs Turn in-
3pm- Beef Brisket Turn in-
Trophies 1-10 Pay out 1rst(50%)2nd(20%)3rd(10%)4th(10%)5th(10%)
Places 6 thru 10 (trophies)
7pm- MC Lone Star Stampede Rodeo (Winners announced during breaks)
85% of $150 entry fees will be paid on the (chicken/ribs/brisket) events
15% of $150 entry fees will go to BBQ Committee to cover cost
Cash prize money will be split into thirds for three events
Trophies will be awarded to top 10 places in each of the Sanctioned events.
Sign up now and reserve a spot this BBQ Cook Off is going to be huge and when
you add in the total money given out from 3 days, it could top 20-30 thousand!!!!!!
This will be the Super Bowl of BBQ Cook-offs in the years to come!

Won't this rule make it a little hard to get the smokers fired up?  _________________ I only believe in two basic food groups... Chili & BBQ
