I'm just curious to see if most of the folks purchase the rub and / or sauce for catering or make it?

Make my own rubs... Even going so far as to grow and grind a lot of my own herbs & spices.

About all I buy is the onion/garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Have been buying my sauce but plan on starting to work on one, I can call my own, this year.

Spent the last year working on technique and rub. I pretty much have that the way I want it now. So this will be the year I work on my sauce. Very Happy

I make rubs, I buy rubs, I get given rubs, I buy sauces, I make sauces, I give sauces, I get given sauces.

Now; if only I could do the same with the meats too! Wink

I do my own rubs, But purchase my sauce. I make a very similar sauce as the one I use for my mild, but it comes out easier & less expensive to just purchase it, I even got permission from the company to privately label it with my label. I just need to send them a proof for approval and get the particulars for the labels to work on their machine so I can get a batch printed.

I am considering having a spice company make my rubs to my specs and bottle those for retail too, Sauce is the major thing right now though.

Harry, the folks at L&N Label (link available at my own web site) do a great job on machine ready labels at a very good price. If you are interested, check out their site and I'll put you onto the contact person you need to talk to.......................

Thanks, it is appreciated.

my own mild sauce has a gourmet root beer in it, I was talking to the brewery that makes the root beer a while back, and told them I make a BBQ sauce based from it, and I was looking for a release form to mention their root beer on the label and they mentioned they have a bbq sauce on the market that is very similar to what I make.
they sent me a sample and I loved it, I have been using it for my mild sauce ever since. it is great on everything except ribs, it totally sucks on ribs though (too Sweet)

RL Schrieber spice, (In Michigan) sent me some spice's, rubs, & soup base samples, and a co-packing program for their dry seasonings. I want a few of my rubs & seasoning blends packed for retail, and they also have their own rub with dried blueberries in it that is great on chicken. I will make something similar to that and get my supplies from them to work up my own blueberry rub for them to package. Iwant to do a sweet/spicy all purpose meat seasoning with it.

I get my rubs from Texas BQ Rub http://www.texasbbqrub.com/index.html. We also use the grilling magic for chicken. We started buying in bulk bags also. Good customer service to boot. Plus those gloves work great while pulling pork!!

I use products from Instant Gourmet. Available at most Super-Targets now and some gourmet shops across the country.

The good folks at Instant Gourmet are friends of the family, but I buy it because they produce top notch products.

Just to be perfectly clear, there is no financial gain on my end for promoting their products. It's just good stuff from good folks.

I purchase my own 5 pound bags two at a time.

Make rub, buy sauce.

We put very little sauce on anything beyond shredded brisket point, so it's really not worth my effort. I do love experimenting with rubs though.
