Just wanted to drop a line for Harolds BBQ in Abilene, TX. I was stationed there for almost 5 years, and unfortunately, I didn't find out about this place until I had been there almost 3 years. It's located at N 13th St and Pine, and the hours are kind of wierd. The line is literally out the door most days for lunch, and in my opinion, it's well worth the wait. _________________ Always Something... |

Next time Im in Abilene, I'll have to try it. I'm only 2 1/2 hours west in Odessa. Get over there about every month or so. _________________ Ain't nothin in this world that compares to Smoked Que!

I was stationed at Dyess for 3 years and they love the military both in that town and in that restaurant. That place had a room for only the military (when the rules were we couldn't go in uniform).
ME, my favorite place in Abilene is Joe Allen's. Get the steak. It's cut to your thickness, grilled over mesquite. They raise their own cattle. Good People.

You know I thought Joe Allen's was the best BBQ until I went to Harolds. I didn't go back since. To their defense, I never had the steak either. _________________ Always Something... |

I like the Steak well enough, that if I'm close, say Fort Worth (few hours drive) I'll go to J.A. for Steaks.
Haven't been back in 2 or 3 years, but I'd bet it's the same. Run down place in a run down side of town with a line out the door in the evenings (dinner & Steak)
Only BBQ I eat is mine, usually, but the first stuffed Baked Potato was at J.A. back in '88 |
