My wife asked me today if BBQ was healthy. How do I lie to hear and keep a straight face. |

Always answer a question like this with another question:

Protein is a pillar of the your nutritional requirements.
BBQ provides an excellent source of protein. |

I've lost 32 pounds this year, and I attribute a lot of that to BBQ - cooking for ourselves where we control the ingredients and portion sizes rather than eating out so much.
My wife has lost about 24 pounds this year.
Fiddling with the pit, wood, Rancher charcoal toting and hoarding, etc. added some physical work in there for me as well. _________________ Let's hope SoEzzy can ditch his heavy hand on photos in 2016!

Was she joking? You should look at her with a "are you kiddin' me", look on your face, turn around and go check your smoker temp. _________________ Love the voodoo that Q do.

Ahh yes! the old question with a question. Always a good decision! That one always throws the old fun governor off her game around my house! _________________ Superior Smokers SS-One with Stoker

Agree. As long as you can control how you trim the meat and what ingredients you put into sauces and rubs you are coming out ahead.
Don't forget about poultry and pork tenderloin. Some good eats right there
When I cook up some butt or ribs I always do some chicken breasts or whole chickens. We need our day of eating bad but its good to know we can follow it up with a leaner meat for the coming days. |

Also the great smoked catfish/tuna/salmon etc... I love a good smoked fish. I also am fighting health issues so Smoke a lot of turkey/chicken and lean beef.
Yes, I also run a few briskets and pork butts through to keep the smoker seasoned properly of course. _________________ DDG

Generally speaking, smoking or barbecueing is a better (healthier) way of eating the same cut of meat because of the way it is cooked.
Like the link that Soezzy posted, more of the fat is allowed to drip away due to the long cooking process than cooking the same cut of meat say...in the oven.
Simply put, MOST people cook at a higher temp when cooking in the oven than cooking the same cut in the smoker/barbecue. So LESS fat is rendered out.
When it is not rendered out of the meat....where does it go?? In your stomach!!
Now I am NOT talking GRILLING here but REAL barbecue/smoking as grilling is really no better than oven cooking. You are cooking fast. |
