Well, I just returned from Camp Swift Tx...about 30 mi east of Austin, between the big cities of Bastrop and Elgin. Anyways, I had heard tale of a place in Lockhardt called "Kruez market". After spending all day on a shadless shooting range, and expirencing numerous problems with my rifle, we decided that good BBQ was in order. Lockhardt is approx 35 mi away, so we hoped it would not disappoint. Well it was defineately worth the drive!! I would highly recommend this to anyone travelling in the Austin area, as it is only a short drive south of there. The sign at the entrance speaks for itself.

Another stop was at the "Soutside market" in Elgin. Don't waste your time...the meat was average, but don't let the sauce get near your table, or you may not want to eat...it was that bad.

Als' BBQ in Temple is always a required stop whenever I'm in town, but they are close on Sundays.

Kruez Market is some of the best BBQ anywhere. But you should of gone to Smitty's also, its in the original Kreuz Market building and serves Q thats just as good if not better. Too bad you had a bad experince at Southside Market in Egin, I have ate there many times and its always been great. I know the sauce ain't what most people like but most of the time the meats been so good I have not needed sauce. Maybe they were having a bad day at the pit.
