Hi,

No offense to you or Patrick or anyone else, but I just don't get the obsession with these cartoon logos. It's not that the artwork is bad; Patrick is very talented. I just find the motif to be bland and sometimes disturbing. To that end, what's up with the armed "mob" chasing the live pig? Moreover why is said pig smiling gleefully instead of being absolutely mortified that the children of the corn are breathing down his neck? I will admit though, it's not quite as bad as one pig cooking or cannibalizing others, but that's a different logo altogether. It's just isn't appetizing to me at all. I think it's just become trendy to "get one of those cartoon logos". I don't often see this genre used in any other type of business and, truthfully, I see it more in recent start ups than in established businesses.

I was thinking of having him do a logo for my business too. I'm bored with the one I use now. I've owned and operated my lawn spraying business for 14 years and employ several people, so I'm not a recent start up.
How bout a giant grub (smiling of course) frantically crawling away from an angry mob of spray trucks and men pushing spreaders? Laughing

Well....the skull and crossbones motif, while less disturbing, was already taken. Wink

Anytime you have to start a post w/ "No offense.....", you pretty much are admitting it to be just that. I also think it's hard for some people to understand a message that is light-hearted, perhaps it's because they aren't. Confused

Personally, I think the logo looks great. I also think Patrick does some really nice work.

Did I miss my induction to the special list of folks you take cheap shots at every chance you get? You should have made an announcement. I would have prepared a speech.

Thanks for pointing that out for me. I'm sure everyone, myself included, is amazed by your insight. Regardless of how redundant the statement was, I wanted to at least make an attempt to ensure my comments weren't seen as some sort of personal attack.

Yes, I had such a very hard time understanding the message. I really appreciate your taking the time to he so helpful. I don't' know what I would have done, had you not stepped up and pointed out the light-hearted nature of cartoons. Thank you so much.

All in all I just wanted to make sure my comments didn't piss you off; that's not what I intended. I understand the logos; I just don't see the appeal of the style. However, (and this is another one of those redundant statements I like to make) it doesn't really matter what any of us think (especially me) about your logo as long as you like it and it works for your team and business.

I thought the children of the corn comment was pretty funny too. (Some people might not understand the message though and I'm not pointing ANY fingers) Smile

Good luck with your team and your catering. Very Happy

I'm sure I've missed a few chances, and they really aren't cheap. Wink

Seems you have a penchant for tearing down other peoples work, be it logos, websites, or even an idea like a catering pasta bar. Funny though, you never seem to offer up any of your own stuff for people to take a swing at.

A little heavy on the sarcasm, but you're right. I'm sure if I'd have started my comment w/ "No offense...." you wouldn't have taken my personal attack as such.

That's what we're here for, to try and be helpful. I think sometimes it's easy to lose sight of that. You're more than welcome....anytime. Wink

I commented on the logo, the trend towards that particular style of logo, and my distaste for that style. I'm not the first to have said something similar here on this forum. You commented on my avatar (that's a first ever), my inability to understand light-hearted messages, my penchant of "tearing down" other's work, my lack of requests for validation from my peers, and my inability to retain sight of why we post here. I think you're right Mike. It is easy to loose sight of why we post here. Let me start over...

Nice logo!

I will agree with OT that the cartoon pig logos are really over exposed right now...I am sure Patrick loves it because he can bust them out in a couple of days and it is $200 or so a pop...great work for someone with the talent...but then again the folks getting them might not be as concern with the things that I am so a cartoon logo is right up there alley...

My only thing is what is the name of that company? Widespread Barbeque? I liked Widespread Pork better but that is because I thought that it was a reference to panic....but maybe I was wrong...

and of course threw my other website I have read just about ever BBQ name out there and I still come across some that make me laugh, but I wonder about the family friendlyness of some of the names...lots of sex, alcohol, and drug references in many of the names...

I love the logo Jon. The cartoon style fits our type of business - light hearted and fun. That's what I thought the first time I saw one at all.

My God! Are you people done?
