Wife and I are headed to Charlotte in October for a log home home show and seminar and then on to the nascar race. Looking for some good bbq and even a good steak house. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'll second that and there's a Big Bob Gibson nearby in Monroe.

Also, if yer lookin' for some interesting Q you can go to the BBQ king in Charlotte. It's a drive in so that's neat, but I will say that the neighborhood has dropped in the last few years. Give the Q a try and the BBQ fried chicken. Very Happy

When you headed here in Oct? Not too many good places here in Charlotte. I have not tried this one but everyone tells me to go there, it's called EB's BBQ out in Indaina Trail
EB’s Bar-B-Cue
633 Indian Trail Road
704-821-6958
known to sell out by 5:30 p.m. For
more information, visit www.ebsbbq.com.

Spoon's BBQ cooks whole hog on wood, very good stuff. They don't do supper. Most who have been there will agree best in city.

Up at the track I think you'll be within 45 minutes of Lexington BBQ #1....Lexington,NC. The BBQ Shangri-la from what I hear.

Now if ya go to Lexington I suggest getting a taste of a few places and then deciding which one to "order" from.

I prefer the Barbecue Center over Lexington #1 but it really does change from time to time as I think places get in a "I don't give a S***" attitude and the BBQ suffers. That's why I said get a few tastes in before ordering they're all pretty close to one another.

Oh and I forgot about spoons(thanks mhoodnc). Pretty good stuff!!

Also, remember....yer at the race. There will be plenty of people you don't know offering some pretty sweet food for FREE if ya just strike up a good conversation.......and pull for the right driver. Wink

Spoons does not actually cook on wood. I talked to the owner a while back, not sure but he passed away just a few weeks ago. They cook the whole hog and use pellets or pucks for the last 30 minutes. It's average bbq with not alot of flavor and very small portions. Their vinegar sauce is pretty good.

If you are here on the 5th you should come by South park Mall, there is a wine fest called Great Grapes going on and we will be vending there. It's Saturday the 6th from 11am-7pm. If you come by I'll hook you up with some free Q!
Here is some info on the event.

Here is another location I have heard pretty good things about.
Rock Store Bar-B-Q
3116 Old Monroe Road, Stallings
704-821-0668
Rock Store’s menu features homemade smoked
chopped beef and pork barbecue, in addition to three
homemade sauces and eight sides. Banana pudding
and the red-vinegar slaw are both made onsite. The
remaining sides – macaroni and cheese, creamy white
slaw, cucumber and onion salad, cornbread and baked
beans – are commercially produced and yet remarkably
good. Bubba J’s sauces are sold by the bottle.
Open Wednesday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-7:30
p.m. (or until sold out).

Sounds good! I'll be there. I told my wife about the winefest so now she's really pumped. I'll never get her out of there and I'm looking forward to trying your Q. I think our log home semiar class is in the morning so it will fit into our schedule perfect. Thanks again for all the info!....Kase

FYI, I went to Eb's in Indian Trail today (between Monroe and Charlotte). It's not exactly convenient unless you're in the area already, but the Q is very good. They are smart and keep the menu simple. I'm really sorry that I missed out on the Peach Grits pie (I don't know what it would have tased like, but I sure was ready to try it!) I got there at 11:45 and they were out already, so it must be pretty good.

If you're a Memphis in May guy instead of Kansas City, you might not want to discuss competition. He definitely has strong opinions on the matter!

Nice folks and good food. If you get a chance, I'd definitely go by. I'll go out of my way to go there again.
