I just got back in from out of town and got the e-mail Big Tom was discussing. I though you may wish to read the original in its entirety.

"September 1, 2007

We are proud to announce the formation of the MEMPHIS BARBECUE NETWORK as of September 1, 2007.

We will begin sanctioning contests for the 2008 Barbecue season immediately.

We are in the early stages of planning and all questions are not answered. We ask for your patience, understanding and support during our transition to this new venture.

Our definite goals are:

1. To improve upon all aspects of the previous sanctioning network.

2. To provide organization and support for existing contests.

3 To provide the contest network with knowledgeable and experienced

judges.

4. To maintain the integrity of judging procedures.

We will update you with details as they are available.

Please share this with anyone interested in Memphis Barbecue. If you have any questions contact one of your MBN reps.

Your new Memphis Barbecue Network Representatives.

Gary and Sharon Countz

Henry and Kelley Evans

Frank and Mary Horner

Tim Kemp

Randy and Cathy McGee

Larry Ohrberg

David and Suzanne Rhea"

We will have to wait and see what happens. I did receive an invitation to compete in the contest in W. Hellena AR. for this fall. It mentioned the winner getting an automatic bid to Memphis In May World Championship. I do not know if this contest was grand fathered in, if this is the first information from the new organization, or the information was printed before all these changes took place. We are all going to be in limbo for a while and probably have to ask questions of the event organizers to clarify the status of each contest.

I hope the information helps
Thanks
Mike

Sounds like the "new' president did a great job- NOT!

I don't know his official job title, but I thought Chip Scott did a outstanding job at the world championship in may (considering what it has been like for the past 3- 5 years). I got the impression this past year that they were trying to turn the organization around. Unfortunately, it was probably a little too late.

But lets be optimistic about the new organization and give them a chance, hopefully they can make it as good as it used to be ( or even better)

We have tried to get a response from everyone at MIM at the higher levels on some questions we had earlier in the year regarding points ect. and cannot even get a return email from them so we just gave up. I will be interested to see how guys like Mike Mills, Pat Burke,Myron Mixon and others feel about this and if they will be a part of a new org. I think MIM has lost it's focus on what the whole thing was supposed to be about, if it was all about money none of us would be out here.

Myron Mixon gave the new organization his full support in a post on Basso's forum late last week.
