Hi all,
Well, I did the research, decided on a Chargriller with smoke box, put it together last night (hammering out those holes=no fun! ), getting ready to season and give it a whirl this weekend.
My question is this... I live in a townhome with a wood deck where I want to set up the grill. I purchased a "grill mat" to put under the grill to protect the deck and catch any wayward grease etc. When I opened the mat however, I noticed that it said for gas grills only. Do all of these mats say this and if not, would I be able to purchase one specifically for charcoal? Thanks and I'll have feedback and pics from this weekends cook. |

Just my guess but I would think the mat is only for gas because it's not fire resistant and won't hold up to any stray ash or coals that land on it. My advice...get off of your deck if possible. If not, find a mat that is fire resistant and has a much larger footprint than your smoker. _________________ Love the voodoo that Q do.

Find yourself a couple of those metal trays from the auto parts store. You know, the kind you put in the driveway to catch the oil drips. That might work for you.

I would look into purchasing a 'concrete board'...have your local hardware store cut it to the size you need....and it is fairly cheap.
It is fire proof and you COULD spray it with a sealer to make it easily cleanable when the 'forbidden grease' drips onto it. |

Or just get 6 x 1'x1' paving slabs and lay them out then pop the chargriller on top, this also has the added advantage of raising the level of the surfaces by 1.75" and it makes cooking slightly more comfortable...YMMV but for the average height folks it does work. _________________ Here's a change Robert.
