I know some people here have Traeger smokers here so I wanted to solicit some opinions on where you guys get your pellets and what you pay per bag. I have been buying mine from the local dealer at $18 and change per bag. He doesn't give a quantity discount. Have any of you tried any of the 3rd party (non-Traeger) pellets or do any of you order them off the 'net? I'd like to try that but it seems like the shipping would kill any potential savings.
Thanks in advance |

| I pay $15 per 20 lb bag and they are through a local Traeger dealer. I've looked online for decent prices for pellets, but the shipping always kills you and usually ends up costing you more than the guy in town. If anyone knows of any online sites with good deals, links to them would be much appreciated. |

I was getting great pellets from Epp Farms, by Newton, KS., for awhile. He was selling them around $18 per 40# bag. Unfortunately, he got busy with his farming and told me that he was going to pretty much stop selling them other than his very large scale customers.
Alas, I really liked his pellets _________________ Treager Texas pit

We order ours from BBQ'ers delight. The lady you need to talk to is named Candy. She is an advertiser here on the ring.
http://www.bbqrsdelight.com/
The last time we ordered pellets from her we ordered 40 ten pound bags. They come bundled four ten pound bags per bundle.
40 bags of pellets plus shipping from AR. to Madisonville, KY was $230.00.
One note is that I have them delivered to my work location where there is a dock. Home delivery would be higher I believe. That works out to be $5.75 per 10 pound bag.

| I second the vote for bbqersdelight pellets. I find them to be fresher and as cheap or cheaper than the traeger pellets I've used. Plus they use oak as the base wood and not alder, which I appreciate. Traeger uses alder. |

Actually it used to be true. Seems they heard the concerns. They now have a second plant and the ones out of the NW are alder based, the ones from the other plant are oak.
There are several FE owners in Oregon/Washington and they buy from others mainly on price. I'll check.
You can also check and I've seen several guys get together and buy a pallet together. |

depending on where you guys live, You might want to check a fireplace, woodstove store to see what "hardwood" pellets they have available.
many pellet stoves use softwood pellets that I do not think you would want to cook with. but they also have oak/maple blends available too.
We have a pellet factory up by us, I'll check and see what is in them and when i make my run south this season I would not mind filling the back of my truck with bags of hardwood pellets if some people want to meet me along the highway and grab some.
No trip dates are set yet, I might even be able to ship them at a decent price too. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Careful with Pellets from heating stores. They're NOT foodsafe, soft or not.
The difference is in making Heat pellets they use a petroleum based oil as a lubricant for the machine. In food grade pellets, they use something like vegetable oil so it's safe for consumption.
Just check the bag of pellets, it is supposed to indicate which it is for.

Wow Dabaslab,
That's a great price. Did you have a gun in your hand when you got that price out of them.
The best I had come up with was 400lbs for $327.00, and then 800lbs for $ 625.00. Both prices were delivered to East Tenn.
But your price kills that. How long ago did you order?
The pellet price I had was $9.00 per 20lb bag and $17.oo for 40lb bag. But then freight takes it out the roof.
I have phone call to make in the morning. Thanks

Our last order was maybe a couple of months ago. Are you having yours delivered to a home address or a business with a loading dock? Home delivery would make a big difference in shipping cost.
Let me know how it works out for you.

| wow, nice prices, i jus sent a question regarding shipping, hope it's comparable to epp farms because those folks over there don't know squat about customer service, so many phone calls and emails go unanswered, very frustrating. |
