I finished 3rd in KCBS brisket in Chandler Az."Duel in the Desert" last weekend and 4th in IBCA brisket and 6th in IBCA ribs at same event. Why do you not recognize IBCA ? IBCA is getting bigger and bigger and more and more events.there are 5 BIG IBCA events planned for Phoenix area and southern Ca. in 2008.IBCA is getting more and more recognition now. _________________ "BBQ Bullies" competition BBQ team. |

The KCBS site only shows TOY results for 2004 - 2006. I had those results on the previous version of the KCBS site. I emailed them to MMA and they reformatted and republished them. There is nothing there for the 2007 rankings.

i stand corrected!
I glanced at it last night and didn't catch it was 06. Still it was nice enough for them to finnally get them up. No how about the 07? They seem to be behind always. Seems as though they should be able to write it into their program when tallying the scores for the comps?
Or could incorperate Dawgs site into there database. _________________ The only thing consistant in BBQ is, it is always the Judges fault!

Well lets just say that there is one major roadblock between real time scoring of the team of the year(and even my rankings) when it comes to KCBS events. That is having a unique ID number for each team...give me that and I could have the rankings and the TOY program running in real time right after scores were posted at contests.
Also the new "non-KCBS teams must pay $25" thing probably has more to do with the unique ID number than KCBS is letting on right now. I talked with Troy Black about this a while back and didnt think that was the right way to go about it then and probably still dont, but as Garry knows things arent the way they used to be over in KCBS country.
I suggested to Troy then, and still do, that they make a place on their website where folks can register and recieve a unique ID number for contests even if they dont want to be KCBS members...they then use those numbers when they register for events. That would make it so that all things dependant on contests results could be posted just moments after a contest was scored...
Currently the scoring program creates a text file that is emailed to troy or someone...he takes that text file and imports it into excel to format it and then copies and pastes it into another text file for the website...Team of the Year calculations are done by hand at the end of the year. The new team of the year program is going to basically require that they move to the unique ids or they wont get the team of the year points tallied up until sometime in 2011. Without the unique IDs the new team of the year program isnt going to work. I am just hoping that NBR and KCBS can work together in the future to update all of the rankings and TOY stuff at the same time.
So if any of you guys are kcbs members and havent voted yet, Rod Gray is certianly someone who is understanding of the current situation and is friendly to NBR. So if you like NBR, Rod Gray is certainly a candidate that would like your vote.
Hope that none of this is against the rules...I dont know if there are any campaigning rules... |

When we did our original proposal and project plan for the KCBS contest and membership database, a team registration with unique ID number was part of our specification. We proposed implementing the database in phases with the last phase being the team registration and real time rankings. To make the real time rankings possible, it would also be necessary to incorporate the unique team id into the scoring program. If you've looked at results for multiple contests, you will see that team names are spelled all kinds of different ways from one contest to another so it is pretty much impossible to automatically calculate the standings from the raw results.
I have been told that KCBS is interested in setting up real time rankings on the website but have no time frame. They will need us to do the database programming whenever they get around to it.

Lord knows I have looked at quite a few score sheets here recently..
and yes using the ID number in the scoring program is the key to it all...once you have that parsing out all the info is easy.
What bothers me is that they have a proposal and clearly some people that are willing and able to do it for basically nothing. I know that you were doing the website for free and I would just like to have access to the info for the rankings, but all I kept hearing was "What's in it for KCBS?" Like they saw no value in my offer to help.
moving on though...
small annoucement about the NBR site...we are working to launch the new category rankings and will be announcing some new bonus events for 08. |

We're not ready to do it for basically nothing. javascript:emoticon(' ')
Wink
We weren't doing the website for free but we were working pretty cheap. The database was a separate project. KCBS is using it now to manage all the members, contests, cooking and judging classes, and contest rep assignments. I'm sure they are not going to provide you with any information to put on your website. They are trying to attract more people to the KCBS website and aren't going to do anything to drive viewers somewhere else.
It was suggested to use the KCBS membership number of the head cook as the team id, but the problem with that is that a lot of teams, maybe even most, who compete in KCBS sanctioned events aren't KCBS members so they have no member ID. That is why the team registration is essential. Maybe that's part of the reason they are implementing the $25 surcharge for non-members.

| I understand the point about driving traffic away from their site, but I dont want to take traffic away from their site. I dont want to have anything to do with what it is they do. I just want to make it easier on me and them to provide BBQ folks with the information they want. I am not out to screw over KCBS, but it certianly seems like some folks think I am. *not that you are one of those folks* |

| Alright well the rib rankings are done and posted. Happy to see New South BBQ 99th in the overall and 12th in the FBA ribs rankings...After all this work I have finally been able to rank my own team...and pretty happy where I am right now...I should have the pork and brisket rankings out over the next couple of weeks and since we have added the MBN contests this year I am adding a new category, Whole Hog. The MBN ribs and shoulder results will go in under the current Overall Ribs and Overall Pork, and will not have their own break out right now. |

Well the Pork results should be posted sometime today. I am running the numbers right now and should be able to post everything after lunch.
After I get everything up I am going to be interested to see if the overall totals would be higher if based on the category finishes rather than using the overall finishes for the overall ranking... |
