well a team that finished 4th last week would earn 7 points for finishing 4th, but would then still be in the current period so they would receive a period multiplier of 2 so they would have earned 14 points towards their total score. But in the case of both Do Rag and Ranucci's I havent been able to find the results for your 2 events so if you guys would like to send me copies of the results I would be happy to enter those scores in and make sure that you get your points this week. Finding the results has proven to be the most time consuming part of all of this..
and yes we need to have a search function and one is already in the works.
thanks for checking it out. |

Could be a great tool with more indepth explanation in many areas, one area is what is meant by current period and how many periods are involved and what points are tied to each period.
I have tried to find teams based on points earned this year and if they had wins last year knew they probably would be lower than if all points were for this year. Only way to find SOME teams is to act like all points were given this year and start scrolling down. Didn't always work but did find one or two using that method. _________________ Tom

You lost me a little bit, but if you want to drop me an email at nationalbbqrankings@gmail.com maybe we can talk it out a little bit and see if we can help you out. There is a search feature so that you can search by team name. Is that what you are looking for? |

After rereading my post I got lost as well. Just a clarifaction of what you mean by current period, how many periods are there and what are the multipliers in each period.
I have seen the search function, and just as a suggestion (don't know how much work this would take, but would be nice if possible) could the search funtion take them to the team AND list their current ranking along with the contests they have placed? _________________ Tom

| What kind of traffic are you getting now Dawg? I visited the other day, just to see how things were going and noticed the comments were on the most recent article; good move in my opinion. |

We have probably doubled our traffic in the last month...not bad I guess...it is coming along and I have been working on publishing the chicken rankings here shortly and still trying to maintain the other rankings...It has been a lot of work, but it is fun to see that work turn into more visitors and more time spent on the site.
but it has been fun and I should be putting up another update tonight and then possible launching the chicken rankings next week. I think that including the chicken rankings is going to be something that helps us to engage even more people because there are plenty of folks like me that have a couple of calls in a category, but that yet to crack the top 10. Overall I would say that things are going well, people seem to be enjoying it and we are just working on getting a break right now. |

Hey Dawg,
We found our team on there. Very suprised to see we had 12 points.
We were doing some post comp brain storming. What would a team at Maggie Valley, NC have gotten for 10th??
Just wondering were we could have been if the ribs hadn't turned out bad.

That would be worth about 2 points right now. So dont fret too much over those ribs. I actually just posted a rib recipe on there if you want to check it out. Glad that you could find your name. I actually just adding something that should make finding your name a little easier. You can search for your name and then when you click on it you see you FBA, KCBS, and Combined scores you can know where to look in the rankings. I think that should make things a little easier for folks looking for themselves...now we still certainly encourage you to spend as much time on you want. |

Nice article Dawg; thanks. As I was reading, I immediately questioned why you were using Homebbq.com's rub and sauce. I'm glad to see see you addressed this question in the article, with an explanation that made perfect sense; especially to someone who's never competed before.
A couple of things I did notice were the Homebbq.com text isn't linked and the article refers to an image that isn't posted.

Thanks Dawg,
I was just looking to see were we could have gone with some decent ribs. We took 11th overall, but that doesn't get us any points.
I picked up some ribs from Tyson. Big Big mistake. They turned out to be the toughest ribs I have ever cooked. I think we took 38 out of 45. And placed in chicken and brisket. What a day, if we had just finished in the middle we would have moved up to 6th or 7th.
What if is a fun past time.

I don't quite understand how the ranking system works, but no big deal.I know my team was listed about 400-something and then after winning some events I am not even in the top 500,and heck I am in the running for Ca. team of the year ??? Oh well,at least it has no bearing on team of the year, ivites to jack,Royal, etc. thats what really matters. _________________ "BBQ Bullies" competition BBQ team. |

Ouch.
Anyway here is a link to an article that explains how the rankings work. If you have any more questions I would be happy to answer them. Right now the National BBQ Rankings only considers KCBS and FBA events, so events sanctioned by the CBBBQA would not earn you points towards the rankings. If you feel that there is an error in the contests that are listed for your team, let me know and I will get it straightened out.
Thanks |
