I am cooking 4 slabs of baby back ribs tomorrow. I normally spray my ribs with apple juice after a bark has started to form around 2 hours into cooking. I want to try something new for a baste any suggestions?

I do 50/50 apple juice and Jack Danials. Comes out good and you can always give yourself a shot at the same time. Laughing

Thanks for all yalls help. What do all these different combinations bring to the ribs besides flavor? Can you acutally taste the bitterness in the liquor? Thanks again.

I use apple and jack, and while you can taste the bourbon a bit, its not bitter or alcoholic tasing at all. I do not even like jack to drink, but i love cooking with it!

I mop and I use cider vinegar, oil and some of the rub I used on the ribs. It keeps the outside from becoming leathery.

I dump 1 can of skoal into a bottle of Bailey's then I let it sit out the entire time I am at the comp in the sun....then come spritzin time I strain it a little and use a spray bottle to really soak my ribs good..Oh yeah I forgot...about 30 minutes before I spritz I take it outta the sun and put it in the bottom of the cooler so it gets nice and cold and I will also add a couple of hand fulls of ice to make sure that it is ice cold when it goes on...I do this every 15 minutes for the last 2 hours...

I used to use apple jack until someone here (can't remember who) turned me on to dark rum. I like it better for pork especially. Now I save the jack for me! Very Happy

I had used apple/jack the last three rib cooks, but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle or expense. So I'm probably going to go back to nothing. I glaze it on the grill before serving anyway, so I think that's enough.
