Riesers (sp?) country style red potato salad from Sams club.

I can't help with the slaw, I make that.

Our Sam's carries the 4 lb. tub of the Reser's red potato salad and a 5 lb. tub of the mustard potato salad.

Circleburner,

After reading all the hub-bub here about the Reser's Country Style Red Potato Salad, I bought a bucket of it at Sam's (in Tulsa) to try it.

Now this is my opinion, and like you know what, everyone has an opinion.
I thought it was pretty tasteless and almost disgusting. I would not serve it to my family much less people you were trying to impress or even people paying you $$ for it. Maybe it could be improved with the addition of some additional cooked red potatoes, chopped celery or onions and seasonings. It was kind of a mushy, bland looking texture. I guess we all grow up loving a certain texture of potato salad. I threw away the rest of the bucket. Maybe their orginal or mustard flavors are better. I looked at their website, I think it's made in Oregon, so I wasn't sure the vintage of it, and I didn't have my glasses on to read the ingredients on the bucket, but I bet it's got all the usual corn syrups, xanthan gums and other preservatives. yum.

That being said, I would urge you to buy some varieties and other brands and taste test them yourself. Just because they're easy and cheap doesn't mean it's a good deal. I bet your homemade would surpass the deli stuff.

Thom

thanks for all the input. i would make it myself but thought doing that way would eat into my profits (which is very little).

hopefully more caters that do it professionally will chime in let me know how they do it.

thanks cb12

The Reeser's potaoto salad I buy for my events Sam's & Costco does not carry. It is in 8lb cardboard cartons and the cartons are yellow.

I buy this at Smart & Final (Cash and Carry) groc. wholesaler.

Sysco MIGHT carry this..not sure. Trouble with Sysco, you can't SEE what you are buying before you buy it..All done off numbers in a book (or on line).

If you have a local deli that makes a decent potato salad, you can talk to them about buying some for your event. Most locals will give you a break (wholesale price) as another business.

Maybe even work a trade...meat for potatoes..(salad)??

Reser's packages 8 lb containers for foodservice distribution, 4 to a case, less than a $1.00 per lb.

They produce one in a 8 lb yellow container that they call New England Style.

We will sometimes use St. Clair Foods - Baked Potato Salad. This is a different twist on the potato salad thing, it offers the bacon bits, chives, sour cream, etc.

We source it through US Foodservice out of Memphis. I think that St. Clair Foods is also in Memphis, but sell through the distributors.

Resers for me on the potato salad, spiced up of course!

Fresh shredded multi-colored cabbage in the bag, mixed w/ a sweet poppyseed dressing shortly before serving- I hate sloppy soggy slaw.

So where are you getting this dressing for your slaw? I was at my Sams the other day looking for it and no luck. Of course when I asked the people there about slaw dressing they looked at me like I was crazy. Question

GFS, also known as Gordon Food Services, also known as Smart&Final. I know they are called something else on the West Coast........... Do a net search for GFS and see what is available in your area.

I think they are having an identity crisis! Laughing

Sam's Club used to carry Kraft slaw dressing by the gallon. I prefer the poppyseed myself.
