Friend of mine has a couple English Cherry trees he needs to cut down and I was wondering if anyone else has used this for smoking wood? Hope to season it and cut into chunks for adding smoke flavor rather than actual fuel.

Should be a heavy smooth barked hard wood but there are many different kinds of cherry trees like sour cherry, black cherry, wild cherry, sweet cherry etc.....unless i`m wrong all good for smokin. Never heard of English Cherry trees but if it bears fruit i wouldn`t toss it.

I had never really heard of English Cherry either. Friends wife that has the tree is an expert gardener and tree specialist so I think she know what she is talking about. I believe the trees bear some very small and dark colored fruit, maybe a quarter inch around. I remember them coating the driveway in the late summer.
