I believe that Big Tom and myself will be cooking at this contest. Not sure if we have any of the rest of the Pigs R Us crew that will be there as of yet.
Any of the "smoke-ringers" competing? _________________ Pigs-R-Us

The simple q cooking team will be there. Great contest.
Heard rumor they might change the turn in times to around 4 on saturday to keep the teams there longer. Again just a rumor.

YIKES!!! That means a late departure for us, along with a 2 1/2 hour drive home.
But, that also means we can have a little longer party time on Friday _________________ Pigs-R-Us

Myself and my partner will be there, "Loose Cannon BBQ".
I have not heard anything about the turn-in times being later. They told us we would get our info packet a couple of weeks before the comp. |

The event schedule is quite strange compared to all the rest. That makes for a whole nother day of drinking. I hope they let the teams stay on site for Saturday evening as well.
In checking the contest web site it is noted that the RV cook sites are all taken. I am waiting for a call-back from the organizer to determine if there will be room for our set-up.
The entry form states: 20 x 20 cook sites. That won't work well with our 30' enclosed trailer.
We will just have to see what they can offer.
One good thing for all the KCBS contests that we have participated in is they do a good job of starting the awards when scheduled. They may drag them out with different announcements and acknowledgments, though. _________________ Big Tom

i like it for ribs, i hate it for butts/shoulders and briskets ( from my estimates that means putting them on at around 2-3 in the morning). No sleep that night!!!
see you there

Maybe Big Tom can hook you up with a Stump's Smoker? Just put your stuff on and get a pretty good power nap _________________ Pigs-R-Us

The Stumps Smokers team will be there. I looked at the application and those late turn in times are correct. It's gonna be a mess for anybody trying to get out of there Saturday night _________________ Mike

The contest organizer has us on "standby" for an RV spot. They only have 20 x 20 spaces available.
We will just have to wait and see. _________________ Big Tom

We are IN!
The organizer called and they had an opening for one of the RV spots.
I promptly paid our entry and faxed in the form.
Now we have to adjust our timing to adapt to the contest schedule. _________________ Big Tom

I wonder what the "iron chef" style anything butt meat will be this year?
Last year it was sushi grade tuna ( which I ate most of before I turned it in)

It could wind up blackened, fried, smoked, or baked in an enchilada.
No matter what it is.
The rules read like we can't wrap it in bacon, what ever it is.
We got our info pack email today. They have 72 pro teams, some awsome pay-outs with complementary lettuce and parsley from Piggly Wiggly.
Who else will be there? that has not already responded. _________________ Big Tom

Our team will be there as well - we look forward to meeting everyone.
I know there was discussion of moving the times back to the standard KCBS times - has anyone heard anything about this? _________________ Jeff Vreeland

I think the reason behind the later turn in times was to keep the teams there longer for the general public to see. Saturday Night the bbq teams had all left last year( like we do everywhere else because we are worn out)

I understand that thought process, but with most of the KCBS cook teams they don't set up to show for the public. Most have very straight forward and purpose built set-ups that are not real elaborate.
Unlike when the MIM teams decorate and set-up for the on-site judging. There again most of the teams are packed up and gone after the awards and the orgaizers plan and allow for that on don't schedule "pubilc" stuff relying on a big BBQ contengency to entertain the crowds.
My opinion has always been that BBQ contests are not spectator events unless there are other activities to help entertain. The cook teams are not there to feed and put on a show for the general public. _________________ Big Tom
