|
|
I know a lot of stumps dealers post on here. Could anyone tell me about the new backyard model? I heard they were coming out with one in the 1000 - 1200 range. Is it similar to the 2x3 off set they had?
Thanks in advance guys. |

I have on. It is a Reverse Flow Offset with Stainless Steel door. Once I get it up to temp, it takes about one log avery hour to stay on target.
Well built, bought it to do ribs and chicken with. _________________ Memories of past exploits: |

| How long does it take to get up to temp usually? It looks to be big enough for me. I usually cook for 15 - 25 on average mabye more. 6 or 8 butts tops if we tailgate. I wanted a pull behind, but I guess I'll just have to roll a smaller unit up on a trailer. Thanks. |

It takes about 30-60 minutes to heat up and thru all the metal. 6 butts is doable, 8 might be pushing it. It would be a very good rig for what you want. However, I do whole butts that have not been deboned or split. I think you could get 9 racks of BB on it and 4-5 briskets. You can do a bunch of chicken the way it is laid out.
Maybe the way to go is to mount it on the front of a utility trailer for ball games. That would provide a little more security for it. _________________ Memories of past exploits: |

| Thanks for the info. I really want to take a look at one. I don't think I'm too far from the factory. It would be worth a drive up one Sat. |

There may be a little confusion over which model is which.
Stump's still offers the SW2x3 offset smoker, retail on that is $1100. That may be the same smoker that L&H was describing. This is a single walled offset smoker that features the reverse flow and an insulated door for the cooking chamber. The rest of the smoker is not insulated; but is constructed of 3/16" steel plate with a 16x16x16 firebox that will work for sticks/logs or charcoal. This smoker would be a step-up in capcity and construction from the very popular "Smoke-n-Pits" and "Chargriller" entry level offset smokers.
I have a couple of these on-hand if you are interested.
Stump's is also working to introduce a "backyard" version insulated cabinet/vertical style smoker; trying to stay at or under the $1000 price. I don't have all the details on that model but some of the early comments lead me to think it would compete with the BWS "Party" or "Fatboy." _________________ Big Tom

Yes, I am talking about the 2X3 offset. I think they are in the $1100 to $1200 range new and basically what I consider a backyard unit, though
I wil use mine for comps.
They are well made. _________________ Memories of past exploits: |

| Thanks for the info. I would prefer an offset like the 2x3 but price and capacity would factor in when compaired to the new "backyard" series. I think Corinth is about 5 hours from where I am. But it could still be worth the drive. |

I drove from Nashville to Vienna, GA, to check out my GF223. Bought it at the Big Pig Jig. I just got the offset about a month ago. It has made some good ribs and chicken. _________________ Memories of past exploits: |

some first place ribs and chicken, right?
that offset sounds pretty good...could I combine that with a charcoal basket to get a longer burn time? |

My 1st place ribs came off my 223 and the chicken I do Rotisserie style. I have not taken the offset to a comp yet as I am trying to get more practice with it.
It has produced some good ribs and spatched chicken in practice though.
It comes with a charcoal basket but I recommend raising it with expanded steel another 3 inches to get about 4-5 hour burn. _________________ Memories of past exploits: |

| If I can fit 9 racks of baby backs and some brisket on it I might have to get one of these pretty fast. |

I think you can fit between 5-7 racks of BB's on the bottom and 2-3 more across the top. Depends on the width(True BB's or Loins or Stl). You can fit 3-4 whole spares across the bottom and at least one on the top. _________________ Memories of past exploits: |

You can increase the capacity with the use of rib racks. They do take up alot of square inches when laid out flat. _________________ Big Tom

AUBBQ it looks like there will be a BBQ contest in Valley Al next year on Memorial Day Weekend. It is not public knowledge yet but it should be sanctioned this month. It will be at the City Property on the River and old airport I think. _________________ Walt

Stumps would be doing everyone a BIG favor if they would actually name each smoker, rather than give them a number. It makes it 100 times easier for comparison and recollection purposes.
As an example:
The big one could be called the " GF Summit."
The middle sized one the " GF Vantage."
The smallest one the "GF Vista."
Hope they are listening... |

I recently purchase a Stumps SW 3x5 and like it a lot!
Big enough to cook two cases of spares (18 slabs) or probably at least 3 cases of pork butt (24 butts) or one 120-150 pound hog.
1 hour to get it up to temp. I started my fire with charcoal, and added two splits about every hour after. Gas assist and no charcoal are in the near future for my cooker.
The cleanup was fairly easy as well, I like the drain set-up.
All and all a nice cooker for the money! _________________ BBQMAN

I hate reading these posts! I would've brought back a stumper with me if I could've got it on the plane. That will be my next upgrade though.... man I love those smokers!! |

I've shipped multi-million dollar machinery to Europe, a Stumps should be no problemo!
