Has anybody else noticed a difference in Royal Oak lump. I generally buy 10lb. bags from wally-mart; However, this weekend I purchased a 8.8 lb. bag from Menards and noticed a difference. The Royal Oak from wally-mart was a lot flatter, while the Menards' bag I bought was more compact and look like chunks of bark. Not sure if they get their supply from different regions or what?? Has anybody else seen the same thing, or is it just me??

you got to look at the bag to see where it is sourced from, they have started using South-American hardwoods and it is definitely different all the way around.

I find that south American woods burn very hot, are herder to light, last longer, but have a perfume scent and flavor, and tend to pop alot.

it will say right on the bag where it is from, the US made charcoal still has a satisfaction guarantee, but the others do not!

I must say the spares I cooked were s--t. I think it did have something to do w/ the lump. I did find it weird that Menards was selling 8.8 lb bags and Wal-mart was selling 10 lb bags. Thanks for the info sack. Next time I'll look at the label a little closer. FYI-Go Pack Go!!!

I have both types of Royal Oak here at home (2x10lbs bags from WalMart and 3x8.8lbs bags from Menards). I took a peak, and they all look close to the same to me. The labels look the same except for the weight, so I'm guessing they're coming outta the same place. Not 100% sure, though...
