Turn-in times are usually predetermined to be chicken at noon, ribs at 12:30, pork at 1, and brisket at 1:30. People's Choice serving usually begins 11:15 to 11:30-ish.
I think sites are more or less assigned ahead of time - Mike can answer that for sure.

I can tell you this, if you get to choose at all you don't want to back up to the river. Last year (my first comp) my firebox was as close to being over the ledge as you could get. The West side of the sidewalk that backs to the concrete wall seemed to be the best sites. I assume they are given first come, first serve? There is another question for Mike. _________________ Mike C.

So, do we know yet if spots are first come, first serve or if they will be assigned? There's a guy I work with that has also entered a team and we want to try to get spots together. _________________ Jeremy

It would be good to get there around the same time to try and get next to each other. The cooksites are a logistical nightmare w/ not a lot of room for manuevering around, so it will pretty much be loaded from the north end back to the south. That's how it was last year anyway, hopefully I won't be parking teams again this year....or running ice....or handling electrical problems all night. _________________ Mike

So we load N to S.. I was wondering..went out there last week and scoped it and it is a strange thin area..question : is ice available at a cost ? and yeah, backed up to the river would be "unique"...I guess some of those are 20' but looked barely 20' _________________ Livin' at the Edge of Adhesion, till Smokin' Time.. then it's OSoSlow: Chillin' Time!

Maybe....but what I'm thinkin' is if I don't do all those things again, I'll have a ready-made excuse for when I don't win.

Yes Bob, there is normally always ice available at the competitions. Sometimes you get a bag of two free, sometimes it is just a buck or two for a big bag and sometimes it five bucks for a 10 pound bag. I did have a kiind of a hard time getting some at the Claremore contest a while back though. _________________ Sa-Mokin Competition Barbeque

WHEW ! I was afraid my drink might get warm ! hehe...drove by yesterday on one of my neighborhood excursions but didn't see you outside so kept movin'...not a person who just drops by unannounced and knocks ! looks like a wet weekend, tryin' ribs and thighs and a brisket again I guess...semi good ribs , ok brisket..and rubber thighs BUT I'll be breaking down and try grilling for a little time I guess..! sounds like we'll need to be early (?) if we want to be near each other, and if we're there 1st does that mean we'll be more south or north do you think ? seems like S since it's the easiest to reach then... _________________ Livin' at the Edge of Adhesion, till Smokin' Time.. then it's OSoSlow: Chillin' Time!

Yah, I definately want to be south of the middle of the setup area. Pretty long walk to the turn-in from the north end. _________________ Sa-Mokin Competition Barbeque

I'm hoping to be in right about the same spot we were last year, there backed up to the retaining wall about half way down.
It's possible that both the Fat 50 AND the She-Beast will be there. See http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=iyt9005.2ghrswad&x=0&y=z4mvla for the conception and birth of the She-Beast, Robert's Stumper clone (and first-ever welding project) with a 2x3x4 cooking chamber and 30 sq' ft of cooking space. 9 hours of good cooking time on a single 10-lb bag of Ozark Oak and 19 hours on one 20-lb bag of Ranch Original ain't too shabby, and she cooks VERY good ribs... WITHOUT foil! She's got her bling, but not her garnet-red paint yet.

This deserves a naughty answer, something about being backed up to a retaining wall about half way down. Bring dirty pictures of ...pits and bbqs smoking! _________________ Here's a change Robert.

Well, anyone who's seen me in full-contact all-out marathon cooking mode can probably verify that I can be a very dirty girl... _________________ Robert & Keri C
