There's been some question about this one for this year, I think. Unless she was fibbing to me, the property manager Alicia Nolen just told me that the competition was very definitely ON for this year.
Just thought I'd pass that along. Mike, you did such a great job last year - have they approached you about being host team again?
Not to get ahead of myself, but there will be cheesy sausage grits for breakfast on that Saturday morning, just so I don't get Merl all bent out of shape and have him start Saturday morning in a grumpy mood again.

Thanks Keri....haven't heard a thing. If they do plan on having this IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS, they better start answering some emails and returning some phone calls. Maybe they could update the website too. _________________ Mike

Come on out and get you feet wet Bob, Jenks is a fun contest. The host team will bend over backwards for you! I'll be cooking Jenks and would be glad to give you a hand with anything you need too.
When I did Claremore a while back I did 3 briskets and 3 butts for a guy that was wanting them for a graduation party Saturday evening. Since I was doing some for the contest any way I just threw on some extras and he came out and picked them up after turn-in on Saturday. _________________ Sa-Mokin Competition Barbeque

Not sure what the entry fee will be, but last year I think it was $150. It's located along the jogging trail between the Riverwalk and the river. _________________ Mike

Can't control the weather, but you're more than covered on the refreshments, guaranteed. _________________ Mike

And you're covered on Friday night dinner as well - looks like a big community pot of gumbo will be simmering on the turkey burner. It's been a couple of years since we did gumbo for Friday night - should be good that time of year.

Congratulations on the decision Bob. Looking forward to having you there! You should have the Smokey Joe's dialed in pretty good by then. _________________ Sa-Mokin Competition Barbeque

I just got the call from Alicia(Riverwalk) that we need to meet. We are getting together tomorrow morning to compare notes and hopefully put a plan together. Details to follow...looks like this may go after all. _________________ Mike

Move it to the parking lot and I am there.

I am with Jay. More room for all the teams. The way I drive that trailer I don't think I could ever get out if I got down where I was last year.
I need to go to bbq rig driving school. _________________ Pigcasso - BBQ is an art form |

Good point - even that 6x10 cargo trailer of ours was a bit of a beast to get situated last year, and we had one of the deeper spots. If we get the 16' trailer that Robert's drooling over, it WILL be a tight fit.
I 2nd the parking lot idea - maybe requesting the spots to be 25x40 like AOB, but at least 20x30?

If they did use the parking lot then they still could shuttle people from the aquarium side for additional parking.
I know the vendors like the traffic but it was a little cramped. Some teams that got their late were put on the side of the trail.
That would be tough. Who knows. _________________ Pigcasso - BBQ is an art form |
