Healthy Smoked Hamburgers

Here is a new recipe with the focus on healthier eating. While it may not be as healthy as a Boca Burger. It is at least a start for those of you who want to ease into a different lifestyle.

Ingredients:
4 lbs. 90% lean ground beef
Cup Oat meal
1 tbsp. Smokey Mesquite seasoning
1 tbsp. Mrs. Dash Salt substitute
2 tbsp. Minced onion (dry)
2 tbsp. Minced Garlic (fresh)
1 ea. Egg (not shown)

Mix all of the ingredients into a bowl until spices are uniformly mixed throughout the meat. Make patties approximately the size of a base ball and then flatten and shape to size. Make sure all patties are approximately the same size so they all cook the same amount of time.

Place on your smoker preheated to 275 degrees and cook until an internal temperature of 165 degrees is reached or until the juices run clear out of the burger. Approximate time for smoking is 30 minutes.

Once the burgers are done, remove from the smoker and enjoy.

These burgers and lean and contain only the salt found in the mesquite seasoning mix. The egg and the oats make for a very moist burger that holds together well. Because you are smoking these burgers, the smoke adds just the right flavor and there is little grease. If you are considering eating more lean and thought you would have to give up BBQ then this recipe will definitely make you happy.
