Hey all,
I wanted some advice (everyone helped some much with my build) about what steps it takes to compete?
I have a homemade 250 gal reverse flow stick burner. I have been doing bigger events (100+) for our church. Everyone seems to enjoy the food so I was thinking about challenging myself at a local competition. I literally know nothing about taking this step so all advice/thoughts are welcome. |

You say local, so I'm assuming VFW rib cookoff or similar[??]
Just jump in Bro! Talk to the local promoter of the event for rules, non sanctioned rules can vary greatly!!Dont be shy or scared....Even the top dog's in KCBS started off on Daddy's old Weber kettle burning burgers!
I slowly eased into KCBS pro circuit after vending at several...My first cook kcbs STYLE was a rib only cook and I came in DAL - dead ass last.. I have since gotten several top 10 and top 5 calls, even beating some really big names [ call it luck, call it they had a really bad day...its still beating them ]
My biggest advice is - they are all just average schmoe's like you or me. Dont be afraid to approach them - they are more than willing to give advice - most of them anyhow! _________________ Money Maker
