Just curious, really, but I'm wondering about "instant read" thermometers. I've used several different brands, and generally it takes about 15 seconds or so to get a temperature reading, not exactly "instant".

Is this typical, or has someone gotten an instant(er) reading? If so, what brand does it?

Thank you.

Therma-Pen stabilizes in 3 seconds Jim. They are pricey but when you need to get a reading fast it is the only way to go.

Ditto on the Thermapen.

Here's the link to Thermoworks; http://www.thermoworks.com/

They have several styles to choose from.

Thanks. I was just wondering if it was just me, or just what their idea of instant was. Three seconds sounds like a definite winner. I'll get one of them. I understand that some colors are faster than others. Any recommendations there??

Well don't get a Superfast Red unless you've had all the other colors and proven you can handle them. You don't go get Ferarri as your first car do you?? Once you've been through the black, green, yellow, camo, blue and had years of experience then you could get a license to carry the Superfast Red.

ThermoWorks makes less expensive thermometers too.
The Themopop take a couple more seconds & costs $30

I second the thermopop. I have had one for the past year and it is inexpensive and reads fast, not as fast as a thermopen, but fast enough for me.

My orange Thermapen is super fast and super reliable. Can't say anything bad about it. While working away from home I found myself with time to do some smoking at the hotel on the weekends. My Thermapen was at home. I got a Lavatools Javelin PRO. It seems to be as quick as the Thermapen, but costs less. Haven't had a chance to do a side by side comparison yet.

ThermoWorks is currently running a sale on their Classic Thermapens for $59. A lot cheaper than they used to be since introducing their newer model, the Mk4.

I second the lavatools, it's been very good and it's less money.
