Yesterday I got an email from some guy with a Hotmail account. The "To:" address was for... joeblowinski@comcast.net (joeblowinski@comcast.net)

I'm not sure exactly how to take that???? Rolling Eyes

The content said;
Quote:

Good day,

Sorry to bother you but we need your complete address to make the replacement of you charcoal bag.

Once we receive the address we will send the bag that same day.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Kindly regards,

Jesus Garcia
Best of the West Products

I don't know if this is legit, but at this point I'm pretty much done with these guys. Until I find something better I'm sourcing my lump from IFH ChefSmart which has the Nature-Glo (rebranded by Royal Oak) product.

My email was from the same name, but from jesusgarciag@hotmail.com and his name was signed and had Best of the West Products under the name. IT was CC'd to Peter Wyckoff of Two Trees Products.

The tracking number shows delivery via USPS on Tuesday the 29th, so we will see.

The TO field had my correct email address.

Thanks for the info Glenn. I don't believe I'm going to mess with it. I took my bags back to Sam's and got a refund.

If you don't mind, post up a review of the replacements and let us know if it gets any better.

That's the plan. I certainly won't be buying anymore at Sam's...

My guess is that most people won't say anything, and just move to another brand/store. Sam's will see the slower sales in their analytic's and either go to another brand or drop it altogether thinking the BBQ fad is over.

Well, the charcoal came a couple of days early. However, they only sent one bag rather than the two promised. No big surprise...

Based on the packaging, I have VERY low expectations. The bag was wrapped tightly with plastic, but then they just threw it in a box with no packing, so it slid around lot. And of course, USPS made a point of using the box as a football. In fact, when the mail carrier THREW it on the front step and ran away, it likely took care of any residual mid-large pieces.

From the feel of the bag, I think I have mostly smalls and dust. Partly the fault of the shipping department and pertly the fault of USPS.

Once I open the bag, I'll see what I have. I KNOW I won't be buying any more of this crap.

That doesn't sound very good. Let's see what you got whenever you decide to bust the bag open.

I'm glad I stopped by this thread. I saw the same lump at Sam's and almost bought some. Glad I didn't. For the past few months I've been using a brand called 'Viva Poncho'. It's a Mesquite lump and I've been very pleased with it overall. Big pieces (usually), burns hot and long, and @ $5.40 for 10lbs is a decent deal, IMO.

And Big Orson is right about the Publix lump - I've used it and was fairly happy with it.

When I was a know-it-all 19 year old, engaged and in college, I worked at our local Wal Mart as an unloader/stocker. I loved when we got trucks of dog food, or charcoal or cat litter. All of that was palletized, unlike most of the general merchandise stuff, which is just thrown into the truck at the DC. But I digress. I had a similar experience with Sam's with another product. It was an odd brand name that I had never heard of before. I just figured it was a brand exclusively at Sam's. Returned the product, talked to the manager (nicely), and he said he would take care of the issue. I figured since I walked in, had my WalMart name badge with me, I might get taken seriously. RIGHT! Went back a few days later, and there wasn't 1 pallet of the stuff, there were 2!!! ON SALE no less. I tried to find the manager again but he was on lunch. I was in a hurry anyway, so I gave up. I got my money back. If they want to put bad product on the shelves, even with people complaining about it, it's on them.

Well...I took the free bag of Vision with us Deer hunting, figuring I could at least grill our steaks, brats, etc and see what I got without ruining a good smoke. Good thing...

This bag was far worse than what I got at Sams. OF the 18lbs, there was at least 5lbs of dust, another 10lbs of really small pieces and about 3 lbs of decent (not large) pieces.

This made my mind up. I'll stick with Del Sur or RO.

That's pretty bad when the manufacturer, who is supposed to be making all this right, sends you a bag-o'-crap.

I was at Sam's the other day and they still have the Vision lump out there. I just don't have the heart to get another bag and go through all the pain again. Oh well, we did the best we could by bringing it to everybody's attention. If they aren't motivated to fix it then I/we sure aren't motivated to buy it.

I was at Sams today to pick up a couple of things and saw the BBQ stuff was out for the year. Interestingly, there was a pallet of what I thought was the wonderful Vision crap. However, it was only the top of the pallet. Underneath was Best of the West! It appears that they were selling the last of the Vision and brought BotW back in.

My earlier stop was at RD where I picked up 4 bags of Carbon Del Sur, so I resisted the temptation to grab some BotW.

Maybe they realized that the Vision was junk and people quit buying it.
