Being new here I have a question I hope isnt completely stupid. If my wife bought a previously cured ham and I wanted to double smoke it could I unwrap it cold smoke it rewrap it and then when I wanteded to eat it hot smoke it or would I be setting myself up to get sick?

because it is already cured & cooked, you will not gain any smoke penetration.
I suggest you hot smoke it the day you want to serve it, hit it with some brown sugar and pineapple juice for a glaze
