This morning I was looking at briskets @ WalMart & the manager was telling me the ones in the case were the last ones for $1.94 / lbs. She said last meat order beef prices jumped big time . Now they will be $2.56 / lbs . 62 cents/lbs is a large jump in my book

That is a huge increase. Still cheaper than the briskets we have in GA.

Last month or so, I picked up 3 whole packers at Walmart at $2.09/lb. That's about the cheapest beef I've ever seen (even on Manager's Special).

In upstate NY, you will never find whole packers at Wally world or Costco. Flats only, with poor selection.

I have been paying 2.29 LB for choice, just jumped to 4.49.
These are case prices Shocked

Wish briskets were that cheap up here in TN. Three years ago, they were $5.98 at Walmart. Now, we're down to $3.98. Never have seen any brisket specials around here at all.

Truth be known, price really doesn't matter too much around here. No store that I've come across carries brisket on a regular basis, so generally you can't find any for any price. Crying or Very sad

I picked up a couple of "Prime" briskets this afternoon at Costco in Fort Worth for 3.75/lb. Very Happy I also found one lone "Prime" brisket at Walmart just before the 4th weekend for 1.75/lb. I'm getting spoiled with finds like that! Very Happy

Personally. I only pay full price if I need something specific for an event. I troll the grocery store for the stuff they have marked down for quick sale, vacuum pack it and toss it in the freezer. We also have a couple great discount groceries that sell stuff that's past date and already frozen. I've had no issues with quality of finished product. The only problem is my wife gets frustrates that there's never room in the freezer

You must be in West TN. Lots of pork down there.....beef, not so much. There are several cattle "ranches" around here in East TN, so our beef prices stay around average. I haven't looked at packers in a while, so I don't know a price right now.

You guys are lucky locally in the past 2 years the price of beef has skyrocketed. Brisket has doubled in price. About $9 a pound.

USMC- It's west TN for sure. Around here "barbecue" is pulled pork. Cooking method makes no difference, could be smoked in a pit, baked in the oven, boiled, fried, or even nuked. If it's pulled pork, it's barbecue.

Living up here has been a real learning experience for me. Can hardly wait to get back to TEXAS. Very Happy

I'm seeing them drop here in the north!
My wholesale choice or better are down to $2.58/lb, and Costco is at $3.19 [ I think it was ] for Prime!
Noticed ribs dropping in price too! $2.68 / lb for heavy St Louis cut! They were around $3.25 just 2 weeks ago!!

You guys are spoiled, up here in the North BBQ is rather scarce, since there isn't much BBQ availability of large flavorful cuts of meat are hard to find and therefor expensive.

Sometimes you may find half a pork butt, half a picnic or pork steaks in the grocery store. Never will you find a whole butt. Brisket halfs can be found at Jewish grocery stores for top dollar. But if you want a whole packer or butt you have to go to a butcher.

Ribs, however, can be found everywhere.

Costco doesn't have butts or brisket, just whole sirloin, round, rib, tenderloin and striploin and pork tenderloins and loins.

Beef prices have went insane, pork prices are steady. Lean ground beef in the past 2 years has gone from $1.99 a pound to $6 a pound. Rib steaks are $15-20 a pound. I bought 4 steaks last week and it cost me $90
