Took the AK out to the range today. I want this rifle to be a 100 yards or less deer rifle. This is standing, no wind, tull ammo, open sights, & a pot of coffee in me.

Looks like you got it squared away after target one, maybe your arm got a little tired on target two?

Shooting standing and without a rest is difficult. Nice grouping.

I have a 25-06 for my longer ranges, 50 to 100 no drop to speak of. 150 I have to make a few adjustments. I don't know why, but the AR just seems to "mechanical" for me. I'll stick with lever and bolt action for the long arms. Luckily I normally have a rest with me: truck bed, across the horse saddle, or my "shooting stick" which doubles as a walking stick when out hiking about.

In the same line of thinking if you aren't well stocked on ammo you should be stocking up. If Hillary is elected guns and ammo are going to disappear and go thru the roof again when available.

If you search and find law enforcement packaging for premium pistol ammo it's actually almost decently priced these days.

If I buy any more ammo, I'm going to need a new closet to store it in. The shelf is buckling under the weight already.

Nice grouping for a AK Mike. To me they are more about
sending lead down range than accuracy.
If my Ruger 77 7mag produced that at 200 yds. I would
be heading to my gunsmith... Laughing

AKs are no tack drivers for sure. They just take a licking and keep on ticking.

Use the ammo search engines on the web and look for what you need. Guns and ammo are as readily available as they have been anytime since Obummer took office. Look for 50 rnd LE packaging in pistol and you can get some pretty good deals on premium SD ammo right now. I just bought 9mm Federal HST for $0.45 a round and if you buy in case quantities you can find better pricing. Just don't wait if you need to stock. Not long ago I scored .223 Speer Gold Dot from Palmetto State Armory for $0.50 a rnd. Just after I bought mine they ran a special for the same price plus free shipping. There are deals to be found now.

The only thing I'm having trouble finding at a decent price is .22LR. I can find .22 but IMO it's still over priced and I can't always find the particular brands and types I want.

If you aren't familiar with the web store google their name and some gun forum will have a thread to tell you if they are GTG or a place to stay away from.

Mass Ammo, Ammunition Depot, PSA, and SGAmmo are GTG.

The sgl is an investment rifle for me,

In 2014, President Obama signed an Executive Order, which banned further importation of firearms from the Izhmash factory. So since that time, no more SGLs or Saigas have been allowed into the USA. Even worse, the order makes it illegal for any US company to do business or have a partnership with Izhmash, so there is no chance of importing just the parts and assembling them here into complete rifles. In otherwords, no more Izhmash AKs are coming in ever.
