Maybe it's always $99. I just saw a bunch of weber grills up by the front of the store with a $99 sign on them so I assumed they were trying to unload them quickly.

Basic no frills One Touch Silver (no extra cannister ash catcher, that's the "Gold" model )

Huh? I have read this thread several times and nowhere did I see a response that would even remotely qualify as an attack on the OP. In fact, the thread turned into a tongue-in-cheek conversation about customer service and manufactures as a whole.
The fact of the matter is that the Acorn is available NOW, in some places as low as $249.00 (Meijer.com), while the elusive Weber Kamoda is but a pipe dream.
When the OP first started posting here he had a lot of questions, as I did, and still do. I read every one of his posts and offered my opinion where I had knowledge of the subject. Several other board members went out of their way to offer him assistance.

This a quote from a post dated Sept., 18 2012:
"Old Smoker and Curtis, I think you have got me convinced!
The only question I have now is whether to get the 18 or 20 inch model?
Is the 18 inch model a "lot" more constrictive in the amount of things that can be smoked? I would really appreciate info/examples if you happen to have them, or just explain to me the variables.

You guys have been excellent in your presentations and opinions, so I would really appreciate this last leg of my search."

Then this from Sept. 25:

"BTW, I have decided to get the "18.5" that "K.A.M." described. Then if I find a need for a bigger unit I can get the larger 22.5 inch model.

In fact I am going to look for a used 18.5 in Excellent condition to see how things go. There should be quite a few around from people who decided to go to the larger model.
"

At this time I sent the OP a link to a CL listing that had an 18" WSM for @ $200.00, in good shape, @ 20 miles from his home.

Short of buying it, picking it up and delivering it, what else is a body to do?

I even highlighted the quotes above in a gentle blue rather than my customary fiery red, so as not to offend anyone's sensibilities.
Just sayin'.

Then I would have to say you sir are a gentleman and a supporter of newbies to the awesome world of BBQ..

Just sayin.. Wink

I am with ya buckie..

Those units are easy to find cheap and can be used for a host of cooking applications from grilling to low and slow as you have mentored us all in their use.

IMO, one of the cheapest ways to get into BBQ..

That was an idea, among ideas Roxy, just to start up & get a handle on charcoals & woods & the timing & tempatures..........
And mostly just to start enjoying the goodness !!!

"cool! I think it might have been red at one time. Almost as pretty as the blue one."

Nope, those are pretty awful close to each one's original color / scheme, just some slight fading,
approx. 55 ~ 56 years old & will cook as good or better ( heavier metal in those days ) than a brand new one......they're damn near bulletproof........ Surprised

My first reaction is that is a lot to pay for 2 extra inches of cooking space. Second reaction is that I don't have any experience in cooking on ceramic eggs, so I really don't have a basis for comparison to see if it's worth 5x the cost of my Performer.
