The latest edition was re-written by Rombauer's grandson for modern tastes.

I've got a small collection of the editions over the years.

So tis is a whole series of general cooking ,Whether it cookies or pasta . I was under the impression that it was a BBQ book . I do see " All about Grilling " . I had read here on the ring in reference to " Best Cookbook " and some Mike Mills ...., Smokestack Lighting, etc... were all mentioned along with The Joy of Cooking . That is what confused me or is the All about grilling , that was probably referenced ? It was not pacific to that title though or is the whole collection worthy > Your thought's

The Joy of Cooking is a really great general purpose "how to cook" book. It covers everything from appetizers to deserts and the meal in-between. The older versions even tell you how to prepare squirrel. Shocked There might be a paragraph or two discussing cooking methods including barbequing and camp fire cooking, but it is most definitely not a book about barbecue. IMO every kitchen should have a copy.

My 1946 edition includes recipes for bear and beaver as well. I love the recipe for brook trout where it cautions you not to disturb the slime on the fish any more than necessary, lest it alter the taste and texture. Laughing

A great classic. We had an older set, but foolishly gave it away. Had to end up buying the book again, and I thnk it's a newer edition....no bear.
