Thanks guys.
As soon as I get it seasoned, I'll make waffles!
A buddy cleaned it up for me, now for seasoning. All kinds of
crap was on it.

From doing a little research, it appears to be pre 1920. _________________ Camp Chef Pro90 Stove w/ Griddle

Thanks for the recipe Paul. I will try it when I get it seasoned.
Here it is after the first round of seasoning in the oven.
I am planning on doing 6 rounds of seasoning before I try
making waffles.
It took on a nice color for the first time.
This is my seasoning method this time:

Yes it will Bbqbuck!
I'm not sure that you can really tell too much of a difference,
but here it is after round 2.
Each time it takes on a bit more color.

Just use the darn thing already! LOL. Season it the old fashion way, with use.
How did he clean it up? It turned out good. |

Okay, okay...settle down.
Here are a few pics of the final seasoning. 18 hours in total.
I think it turned out pretty good.
As far as cooking some waffles, all in due time.
I am going to try to do some this weekend. I want to do it over
flame, like it was meant to be. Gonna use my Camp Chef stove.

Nice looking cast iron....
Say I have a question for ya. I inherited a couple of my moms ci pans. I want to refinish them as you did. Love cast iron skillets.
Do you think it would be OK to clean them in a bead blaster?
This machine is filled with a type of glass beads I believe. A fine material for sure. We use it to blast small parts at the shop, prep for painting. Usually the boss keeps the material changed out pretty regularly so it wouldn't be filled with rust, old paint or the like.
Kind a looks like your waffle iron was sand blasted? was just wondering if blasting would be ok for this refinishing process. |

I would think it would work great.
I'll ask my buddy what kind of media he used.
I think glass or sand would work. _________________ Camp Chef Pro90 Stove w/ Griddle

Thanks Beertooth !
Ordered & received the flaxseed oil last week. Thinking I'll blast today & start the seasoning process Saturday.
Blead blasting or sand blasting.... Don't get no cleaner than that. Right down to the raw fresh metal. I can't see no reason not too run em through either. |

If you search, you'll find that many people report flaxseed-oil seasoning flaking off with use. They then re-strip the pans and season with something else like Crisco.
Best not to sand- or media blast old pans, if they may have some collector value. Better to strip with electrolysis, lye bath, or Easy-Off (same as lye bath). Vinegar can take care of minor rust. _________________ Pitt's & Spitt's U2436 |
