3 chickens, 2 using the beer can method.

Really liked the way the chicken turned out, especially the 2 beer can chickens. They were more moist than the 3rd bird. But the 3rd was just as tasty.
Between 5 of us, 2 Adult males and 3 petite ladies (wife and 2 daughters) we ate 1.5 of the birds. Leftovers have been picked and shredded for tonight's dinner. (chicken pot pie)

Good lookin birds!!

Beer can chicken is a cool prop for guests but doesn't actually do anything.

(Another fun prop is to pop a long neck and shake it a little with you thumb over the top and spray the meat for a flashy basting.)

the trick is to put a pan of beer/water between the birds and coals so it actually gets hot enough to steam.

BUT a UDS will usually smooth out most bumps and make awesome food[/img]

I agree that the beer can does nothing for the bird (in the few times I have done it). I have added things to the beer and they don't do anything for flavor. It was good, don't get me wrong, I just don't think it changed anything.
