Is there a way you can check a trailer VIN online? Free would be great. Smile

I am looking to buy a food trailer and I wanted to check the VIN just to be safe. I am buying it from an individual not a dealer.

I found this --> http://vinchecker.net/

here -> http://www.wikihow.com/Check-a-VIN-for-Free

Never used this service so I cant say how good it is. Use at your own risk meaning make sure your anti-malware is up to date.

Thanks Mike,

I did some more looking and found a couple sites, I was just curious if anyone had any experience with one or if there is one that they preferred. I guess I should have worded my post a little different.

I have never used one of the pay services. I do work in law enforcement so I would be surprised if they are 100% accurate. I know that type of information is monitored and there can be high fines for people (dispatcher, police, etc) who release that information unlawfully. It never happens but that info is supposed to be confidential so I can't imagine that is available online. Those sites might have a collection of information compiled from public sites but I doubt it will check everything as a police check would do.

Why wouldn't stolen VINs be posted publicly on every website that possibly can? There should be a central clearing house for this info.
