This is about 14 years old, Just starting to look for a new one.
My local stores have a seemingly limited supply.
What available, works well, and is durable?

I have had a Speed Glass for years and had no issues. I used a Miller once and it worked ok for the short time I tried it. I still have a jackson fixed shade hanging on the wall just in case. |

I end up with the task of handling repairs on hoods for all the guys at our shop: just for the record, over the last few years, I can pretty much count on the more expensive a hood is, the more problems it's going to have. The first round of Jackson Safety were good, when they finally died after a long and fruitful life, their replacements just don't hold up.. The Miller Digital Elites crash and burn at about double the rate that the pro hobby model does: etc. etc. etc... |

I would love to have a nice $$ Miller shield. ( there may be a pun in that, not sure. ) However, with my $$ budget and my ability to..."Crash and Burn" was mentioned earlier, my thinker and the hood attached to it on occasion, I use a simple Northern Tool auto hood I picked up. 2 adjustments, darkness and sensitivity only, it has served me well. 4 yrs later, still on the same battery. That said, no love lost when / if it takes the plunge from up high down to terra firma aka concrete floor. They make more. _________________ Backyarder

I would think that comment would apply to my own thinker cap equipment foremost as well but ... well ...you know. Once again, I may need that Miller Shield someday, possibly sooner than later. _________________ Backyarder

Was talking about this with my neighbor last week, he went out and got the northern that day. It worked as advertised.
I'm going to get something nicer.
But that is a great video for the hobbyist |
