Cold smoked a couple of thick cut, Tatonka Dust seasoned rib eye's using whiskey barrel pellets.
-----
Shrimp were seasoned with Tastefully Simple Seafood & Fish seasoning.
-----
Getting a good hot bed of lump glowing for the rib eye's...
-----
Rib eye's are on!
-----
-----
-----
While the rib eye's rested, grilled up some garlic toast. Love the extra char taste from cooking directly on lump, will definitely be making steaks using this method again!
Thanks for looking!

Looks good! Could that possibly be a little Akorn Jr from Char griller? looks small, it's red. How do you like it? _________________ 22" OTS - Hinged Grate

This is must try guys. I posted one a little while ago. Rib Eye, 1-3/4" cut, beautiful.
Remember to use safety glasses while going caveman. You need to blue on your fire to de-ash it, plus keep it burning red hot and you WILL have some sparking. _________________ 22" OTS - Hinged Grate

Steaks look fantastic......that for sure is caveman style....I have also never seen steaks cooked directly on the lump.
I would be to scared of getting ash and coals stuck to my steaks. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)

Alton Brown cooked steaks like that on an episode of Good Eats some years back. He used a hairdryer to blow the ash off of the coals. |

I have seen Steven Raichlen do it on one of his BBQ shows too. Looks really tasty. Thanks for posting this and reminding me of it. _________________ UDS

It is... Mini Akorn a.k.a. Little Red Kamado! We bought it for camping, but this little grill is such a great steak searing machine we use it at home quite often. We very much like it and wish they still made them for when this one needs replacing.

Yes, just lay the steaks directly on the lump. |

Great way to cook steaks. Whenever I tell my kids we're making "Cowboy steaks." They go nuts! _________________ LURKER
