what's everyone paying for beef brisket in your neck of the woods?

Here in Ontario, Canada it's going for $4 - $7 per pound. A butcher told me that there's been a beef shortage this year and was speculating that it was due to the long winter.

Curious what everyone else is paying.

2.70 to close to 4.00 a lb. Depending on stores and sales. Most of the USA problems are a long drought that we are experiencing.

That and the freak blizzard in the Dakotas last year (at least for this area, we're not in drought).

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/10/131022-cattle-blizzard-south-dakota-winter-storm-atlas/

USDA Choice packer brisket at Walmart was $3.28/lb. last month.

I picked up a small (7 lb.) USDA Choice packer at Restaurant Depot last week for $3.49/lb. and a 14 lb. USDA Choice Angus packer brisket at Restaurant Depot for $3.69/lb. last weekend.

USDA Choice brisket flats were $5.96/lb. last time I picked one up at Sam's Club.

I don't see much USDA Select grade beef up here; it's either USDA Choice or no-roll typically.

I also haven't seen imported beef from Canada, Mexico, South America etc. yet anyway - I think Mexico has also been having drought issues.

A couple of weeks ago our Wally World had select packers for $1.78 /lbs . They had some nice looking flexible ones so I stocked up . Had to cook for couple different groups last night & didnt have time to thaw another . Found a nice looking choice packer for $2.59/lbs . Cooked side by side & the select was the better product . Now all Wally World has is trimmed for $6.19/lbs . That is robbery .

I just picked up a case of packers last week. Swift select for $3.80 per pound (that's cdn too). Converted, I guess that's about $3.48 USD.

The Swift stuff I find is just ok which is funny because I used to get 1855 packers (at $6 per pound) and they were really good. Then I found out that 1855 is Swift which is JBS. Who knows.
