Well I really do believe something is going on at Weber now !

When I posted the above there were places all over the Internet selling the Akorn. Today I went looking for a good price, what I found was there are only a few now selling it and there prices have raised to $350.00 vs $300.00 a month ago.

So I went to Sam's, because they were selling it at the discounted price and was a fairly hot item (easy to return problem items).
However all of a sudden they are not listing it anymore, evidently it has been dropped!
Sam's doesn't drop a darn thing that has been selling without a very good reason! They are prone as Hell to raising prices lately, but not the other way around!

You can call me whatever but I believe things happen for reasons (Coinstance is BS), wether you believe or not is up to the individual

Our lowes still has the akorn for $299. Saw one on the floor but not sure how many they have in stock. They also have it listed as "in stock" online. On amazon they have jumped to $350.
I guess I'm glad I got mine last year. But how does this tie in the the weber exactly?

Yep! I seen a thread over at the Weber Kettle Club a week or two ago where a some guy claims he took a tour of the factory and they were setting up the new assembly line for the Webmoto grill so they can start filling orders by spring.

He also said they cooked the group lunch on the finished prototypes after the tour. The grill comes with a 24" one piece cast iron grate (looks like expanded metal), gas charcoal starter, comes in red, green, blue, orange and black. Supposed to have the old style wood handles on it and the 26" WSM. They told him the test market is going coo coo over these cookers.

I was talking to an aquiantence yesterday (Wall Mart) about smokers and that I was going to get the Char Broil Akorn with really good recommendations from a forum I belonged to (Smoke Ring) this coming spring.
He smiled and said that maybe I should wait a bit, that Weber" was coming out with a Kamado type grill !!
He wouldn't say any more even though I tried to press him, but seemed genuinely familiar with the Akorn and the "Smoke Ring"!
I just backed off with any more questions.

So, now I am wondering. Has anyone else heard anything about Weber doing this?

This was the original comment / question...... Very Happy

Hmmmmm. Procrastination is a terrible thing. You could be cooking on the Akorn if you had just pulled the trigger back then. Wink
Here is a pretty good scenario, Weber puts out one in the Spring (I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.) The price is in the 400.00 to 600.00 range. Will the extra 40.00 or 50.00 for the Akorn be all that important then or will you still wait to see if the new wears off the Weber don't hold your breath on that one either. Wink

Grills are like boats.. Ya dont buy them in the spring without paying full price..

The start of winter is the time to buy either IMHO..

Not that I buy grills.. My wife buys them for me in spring.. Laughing
